Alabama Stepford Wife Engages in Damage Control and fails miserably...film @11
In the Internet Age, everyone can here you lie...and there are a million transcripts and recordings to prove it
Thankfully, there are still consequences for lying in this country. Not for everyone, of course. Donald Trump lies with such firehouse-like frequency that the entire country has been rendered numb to his grotesque dishonesty and lack of integrity.
But for amateur prevaricators like Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL), who delivered the GOP response to President Biden’s State of the Union Address, the blowback has been considerable…and refreshing. It turns out that most Americans don’t like being lied to. Who knew??
First, it was clear that the GOP was going for the “hot soccer mom” effect. Sure, Katie Britt is a US Senator, but she’s the sort of woman who could be sitting on a wooden bleacher, sipping coffee from a Thermos, and cheering on her nine-year-old girl at a Saturday morning soccer game. Or, if she’s channeling her “scariest bitch in the Target parking lot” persona, screaming at the 15-year-old referee.
Second, it was apparent she’d been overprepared and overcoached. It was as if someone had told her what notes to hit and when, and she did precisely that…by laying it on WAY too thick. Sen. Britt’s overacting was painful to watch, almost as if it were an exercise in self-parody. Sadly, for her, it wasn’t.
Third, her story of the woman who’s been sex-trafficked was horrific and contained just enough of a nugget of truth to be believable. Yes, the poor woman was trafficked. In Mexico, and during the Presidency of…wait for it…George W. Bush.
So, not on our southern border, nor while Joe Biden was in office.
And then journalist Jonathan Katz did a bit of digging, and Sen. Britt’s story quickly fell apart.
It turns out that Sen. Britt is…what’s the technical term I’m looking for? Oh, yeah, she’s a fucking liar.
And you can’t blame
for having some fun at her expense, yeah? It’s not like she didn’t deserve it.Hey, check out this rhyme we just came up with before we’d even finished our first cup of coffee:
There once was a lady named Katie Britt
Who was so galactically full of shit.
She lied on TV,
For everyone to see,
Perhaps the Senate she should quit.
Eat your heart out, William Yeats.
Yes, the fallout continues for Katie Britt, who is remarkably managing to challenge Tommy Tuberville for the title of “Worst Senator from Alabama.”
How is it that Katie Britt isn’t even the worst Senator from Alabama?
And why was she making the rounds on Sunday morning television? It certainly wasn’t a victory tour.
Even as she was dutifully playing “Please Take Me Seriously, I’m a Senator,” her disastrous SOTU rebuttal hung over her like the Sword of Damocles. With every word, I kept waiting for “the craziest bitch in the Target parking lot” to make an appearance.
While that never happened, the question of her blatant dishonesty was never far from the surface, especially when a CNN reporter who’d known the sex-trafficking victim since 2014 reached out to her for an interview. Her responses were very revealing.
Sen. Britt needs to stop doubling down on her SOTU response. Instead of admitting that she misspoke or apologizing for creating an impression that she didn’t mean to, she did none of that. Instead, she there was no admission of having made a mistake. She plowed ahead and focused on the horrible, awful things that President Biden has done to exacerbate the situation at the border.
I believe “disgrace” was one of the worse she used. Hmm…project much, Senator??
We should remember that Sen. Britt helped to negotiate the bipartisan border bill but then voted against it when Donald Trump ordered Republicans to. He’d determined that fixing the problems at the border would hand the Democrats an “unwarranted” advantage, and so it would be better for him to run on the problem.
There’s nothing wrong with admitting to making a mistake. Sen. Britt could’ve played the “flawed human” card, and I think most Americans would probably have understood. It’s simple; own your mistake, be honest about what happened, pledge to do better, and move on. Most people will understand and accept a sincere apology if you can do that.
But Sen. Britt couldn’t be bothered to admit that she’d done anything wrong. Instead, she doubled down on her criticism of President Biden. In the end, she looked as if she was someone with something to hide.
So, what we were left with was the Serena Joy effect, or what
felt was an awful production of Bad Political Theater.Holy Serena Joy, Batman. The Republican’s choice of Alabama Senator Katie Britt was clearly an effort to go after the ‘suburban mom’ demographic and to contrast her youth and bouncy beauty with Biden’s lack thereof. She was touted as a wife and mother foremost. The overwhelming response amongst everyone who watched was a loud cringe - it was a terrible episode of political theater.
Between her SOTU response and doubling down on her dishonesty when she had the opportunity to prove she wasn’t like every other Republican, Sen. Britt proved she was the same as every other Republican- dishonest, immature, not ready for prime time, and utterly beholden to Donald Trump.
Sen. Katie Britt is devoid of political courage…or any courage, for that matter.
It turns out that it wasn’t just people on the Left upset with Sen. Britt for being such a dishonest sack of dog excrement. Some men on the WAY Far-Right were also pretty cheesed off at her and for reasons that spotlight what world-class, top-shelf, Grade-A, USDA Prime dumbasses these trolls are.
But I’ll let
explain that:Alabama Senator Katie Britt has taken a lot of well-earned shit for her disastrous reply to Biden’s State of the Union. she was wooden, unlikable, inauthentic — and it turns out the story of Mexican sex trafficking that she blamed on Biden actually happened during the George W. Bush presidency.
but it turns out ultra-conservative men hated her speech, too — for the dumbest of reasons.
let’s let christofascist goon Andrew Torba, founder of the Nazi hate-app Gab, explain: [see above tweet]….
for fuck’s sake, Andrew — stop it. stop making me feel bad for Katie Britt.
I know, right??
I’ve been trying to figure out how Katie Britt became a US Senator, and the only thing I can figure out is that White men in Alabama wanted a Senator they could fantasize about schtupping.
And while being attractive is nice, the Wholesome Christian White Girl act doesn’t negate the reality that Sen. Katie Britt. spent a good part of her SOTU response lying to America from her kitchen (kinda makes you wonder what she teaches her children, doesn’t it?).
For that,
argues, Sen. Britt should resign. As I’ve said many times before, I think we should hold our politicians to the highest standard, not the lowest. Although Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of Katie Britt on SNL was hilarious, what Britt actually did in the moment was not.
Britt suggested the girl was trafficked and raped in America–or near the border–by a drug cartel during Joe Biden’s presidency, inferring this was somehow connected to Biden’s immigration policy. Britt stressed how much it touched her heart–especially the part about it being done by a Mexican drug cartel–and she told the story as if the woman had personally confided in her when she visited Texas recently.
Britt told this story dramatically, as if every word was rehearsed for maximum sensational effect. She performed it to a national audience through reputable platforms in the rebuttal to the State of the Union. Though I don’t understand how, she appears to have thoroughly thought this through, and she gave herself a lot of freedom to play with the truth of this delicate and personal story her subject had supposedly shared.
It was very apparent that Sen. Britt had rehearsed and re-rehearsed her speech. It was hardly a one-off, off-the-cuff performance. She knew what she was doing, and she knew that the story she was telling wasn’t true; it was a lie, and she did her best to implicate President Biden in its telling.
We know now that the incident that Britt emotionally talked about occurred in Mexico, not in the US or on the border. It was when George W. was in office, not Biden. Though the story was awful no matter who perpetrated it, the survivor was not assaulted by a Mexican drug cartel. And the account was given to Congress in a 2015 testimony, not exclusively to Britt.
Britt was wrong. The facts matter. They matter to those listening and trusting their government. They matter to those who may be discriminated against because of how people respond to information provided. They especially matter to the brave people who step up and tell their personal stories, entrusting them with others to use them with care.
The depravity of another Trump sycophant twisting someone’s personal story to smear Biden for their own political gain was beyond despicable.
We have a responsibility as the American people to call this abhorrent behavior out and to demand accountability for it.
Yes. Yes, we should demand better from those who’d be rending their garments in mock outrage if a Democrat had been caught lying in similar fashion. If that were the case, said Democrat should be expected to resign. In this case, Sen. Katie Britt must therefore resign. She simply cannot be trusted to keep the oath she took when she assumed office.
Whether one is a Democrat or Republican shouldn’t matter in a case such as this. As Americans, we should be able to expect- nay, demand- better from our elected representatives. That Sen. Britt subjected the entire country to such a brazenly dishonest spectacle is beneath the dignity of the office she occupies. Therefore, we must demand that she resign yesterday.
Such a shamelessly unprincipled performance not only demeans the office she occupies and betrays the trust of the state she represents, but it also displays a profligate and improper degree of servitude to Donald Trump.
Alabama…and America…deserve better than an embarrassingly dishonest and amoral Senator with no moral center.
It’s difficult to know how she rose to her position as the junior Senator from Alabama. Maybe she’s good at spitting out all the Republican buzzwords at the right time. As cynical as I am, though, I’ll go with her being good at getting out the horny White male vote.
KATIE BRITT- A SENATOR YOU COULD F**K!!!!
It’s not as if she has much ELSE to offer Alabama, except that she’s not yet the Yellowhammer State’s worst Senator.
That’s something.
All of my posts are public at this time. Any reader financial support will be greatly appreciated. Currently, there’s no paywall blocking access to my work (except for a few newsletters). That remains an option down the road. I’ll trust my readers to determine if my work is worthy of their financial support and at what level. To those who do offer their support, thank you. It means more than you know.
At least she wasn't sucking from a water bottle like she was still swinging from the teat? IYKYK.
Nailed it. In the history of self owns, Britt's has to be among one of the greatest ever. I suppose that since lying has become the requisite trait for Republicans she has become so inured to it, that it never occurred to her that she'd be fact checked? Amazing, in the wrong way.
