An Open Letter To Unvaccinated America
"Not exactly The Greatest Generation, are you??"
Dear anti-vaxxers, vaccine deniers, and outrageously selfish covidiots among us:
I don’t think it’s a stretch to believe that NO ONE wants to see children dying from COVID-19. Sadly, there’s no vaccine available for children under the age of 12. Therefore, the most vulnerable among us currently are also the youngest.
So how do we stop this scourge? How do we keep our children safe and- most importantly- alive until a vaccine becomes available for them?
Hmm…if only we had a safe, easy, free, and readily available solution that would allow us to keep America’s children safe from harm?
Oh, wait…there actually IS a way to protect our kids. Right now, the best way to protect children from COVID-19 IS…wait for it…FOR ADULTS AROUND THEM TO GET VACCINATED.
Let me repeat that for those of you in the back who may have missed that:
THE BEST WAY TO PROTECT CHILDREN FROM COVID-19 IS FOR ADULTS AROUND THEM TO GET VACCINATED.
That’s it. That’s all. It’s not difficult to process or comprehend. Listen to the data, and you’ll understand that the three available vaccines are safe and effective. Not only will they protect you, but they’ll also protect those around you. Sure, there’s a slight chance you may test positive for COVID-19, but the odds of you becoming seriously ill or dying are infinitesimally small.
Millions of us have been vaccinated. I experienced minor side effects (mild headache, sore arm, delusions of grandeur, and a desire to topple the Empire) from my first shot and none from my second Pfizer shot. I considered these a small sacrifice, especially once I examined what the alternatives might be.
At this point, I don’t know what it will take to convince you to get vaccinated. If you can’t accept your responsibility to the wider community, I’m going to turn my back and consider you beyond hope. I have neither the time, energy, nor inclination to persuade someone so selfish and ignorant.
Compassion isn’t, and shouldn’t be considered, an endlessly renewable resource. But, at this juncture, I have none to waste on those too ignorant and selfish to do the right thing for the right reason…especially when children are involved.
If you can’t see your way clear to protecting children, then I’d submit that you’re a callous monster. If you can pretend not to feel any responsibility for a child dying from COVID-19, you lack even the barest shred of humanity. That being the case, you don’t deserve to have or raise children.
No compassionate human being could sit by idly as children are dying, not when such a simple, easy, and FREE solution is readily available. I can’t imagine how you can bear to look at yourself in the mirror…but perhaps you’re just that selfish, arrogant, and ignorant. Perhaps you really DON’T care about anyone but yourself. That’s certainly your prerogative, but it’s a truly awful example for a parent to set for their offspring.
If that’s who you are, I sincerely hope you’ll find the reserved parking space in Hell that you so richly deserve.
