Just you wait, Far-Right Trump-humpers promised us; on Election Day America will see a “red wave” unlike ANYTHING this country has ever seen.”
[Please insert tasteless menstruation joke here- thank you, the Management]
And so we waited…and waited…and waited. Five or six days after Election Day it became clear that the anticipated “red wave” had actually turned out to be nothing more than an ugly brown skidmark. Terrified Republithugs fell well short of projections (and expectations) and even many of Orange Jesus’ Anointed Ones suffered ignominious losses.
The reasons, of course, are legion- or so the Right-wing cognoscenti would have us believe. Sure, there were the usual accusations of nefarious doings, Italian satellites, Jewish laser beams, Democratic “groomers,” and the like. The Family Research Council’s Ken Blackwell is convinced that the problem for Republicans is that it’s “too easy” for voters (read: “Democrats”) to exercise their franchise.
Yes, what Americ needs are more hurdles, legal barriers, and hoops for Democratic-leaning voters to jump through to “prove” their worthiness to vote.
(You must the THIS White, Conservative, Christian, and heterosexual to be allowed to exercise your franchise….)
After right-wing predictions of a “red wave” or “red tsunami” were defeated by voters, some right-wing leaders are predictably calling for new restrictions on early voting and mail-in ballots, both of which have increased access to the ballot and expanded as safe ways for people to vote during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among those calling for limiting early and mail-in voting is the Family Research Council’s Ken Blackwell, a notorious voter suppresser during his tenure as Ohio secretary of state, who in 2020 participated in former President Donald Trump’s scheme to get Vice President Mike Pence to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power after Trump’s loss.
An article published Tuesday by FRC’s “news” outlet, The Washington Stand, said Blackwell called it “crazy” to depend on vote by mail and said he would end early voting if he could. In a conversation with FRC’s Tony Perkins two days after the election, Blackwell declared himself “a 21st Century Luddite” and said he wanted to ditch voting machines for paper ballots and restrict voting to Election Day itself.
Right. Because it’s historically been easier for White folks to get time off to vote than for Blacks. And anything you can do to increase the degree of difficulty for minorities (and other tradition
ally Democratic-leaning constituencies) to vote can only accrue to the benefit of GOP candidates.
Because if you can’t beat ‘em, you probably going to have to cheat ‘em.
Blackwell and Perkins agreed that voting by mail and longer election periods create greater ballot security challenges and more opportunities for human error. “The Democrats want that type of a process,” Perkins claimed. Blackwell agreed, saying, “What they figure is that if you have enough confusion, if you have tight margins, you get vote counts in what I call the area of litigation.” In reality, election experts and studies have shown that vote by mail is safe and reliable.
While making insinuations about Democratic motives, Perkins and Blackwell said that there were fewer reports of “shenanigans” this year, thanks in part, they said, to having additional observers at the polls.
Interesting how those on the Far-Right project their desires to cheat onto Democrats, isn’t it? It’s a technique straight out of Josef Goebbels’ playbook- accuse your adversary of the very thing you wish to do yourself. While the public is outraged over the accusations directed at your opponent, you can sneak behind their back and do what you planned to do all along.
It makes Richard Nixon’s dirty tricksters look like rank amateurs, eh?
Of course, Blackwell and Perkins are hardly strangers to cheating when it comes to election manipulation:
To be fair, Perkins and Blackwell know something about cheating the system and creating confusion. Both energetically embraced and promoted Trump’s lies about the 2020 election. In December 2020, they signed a letter falsely claiming, “There is no doubt President Donald J. Trump is the lawful winner of the presidential election. Joe Biden is not president-elect.” The letter called on state legislatures in six battleground states won by Biden to appoint pro-Trump electors anyway. At the end of that month, both Perkins and Blackwell signed another letter urging Senate Republicans to contest electors from five states.
Alas, as former NBA star Rasheed Wallace once said, “Ball don’t lie.” The numbers from the states in question had been vetted, re-vetted, and in some cases re-re-vetted. After 61 court cases that had been shot down and no credible evidence presented, those who claimed that Orange Jesus was the “lawful winner” didn’t have the law (or the truth) on their side.
Cheating- i.e., disenfranchising voters who don’t vote “correctly”- is a really crappy and truly unAmerican way to ensure that your side gets to rule the world.
There’s another part to the “problem,” one I didn’t initially recognize. Seventy-two percent of women under 30 went for Democrats. It turns out that when the GOP and the Supreme Court threatened their bodily autonomy, they unleashed The Power of the Pissed-Off Woman. And it was truly awesome to behold.
Yes, most single women rejected the GOP in epic fashion, and it was a thing of beauty. When you position yourself as the party of misogyny and White male superiority, you can’t reasonably expect women to get behind that. And they didn’t.
These results prompted Lauren Witzke—a Russia-loving white nationalist and conspiracy theorist who was the Delaware Republican Party’s nominee for the U.S. Senate in 2020—to declare that giving women the right to vote in 1920 “was the worst thing that ever happened to America.”
Last Thursday, Witzke appeared on Elijah Schaffer’s “Slightly Offensive” program, which has recently gone independent after Schaffer was fired from The Blaze for reportedly drunkenly groping a female colleague. During her appearance on the show, Witzke apologized to the nation “for the rest of my fellow female voters because they are voting our country away.”
“In regards to women voting, that was the worst thing that ever happened to America,” Witzke said. “Women overwhelmingly vote on their emotions and liberals are very good at appealing to emotions, ‘Oh, look at these migrant children, they have nowhere to go, look at this pregnant migrant woman, she has nowhere to go, we have got to open up our borders and give her cash assistance for the rest of her life here in America.’ And women vote for that. They vote to have weapons taken away, our Second Amendment rights taken away.”
All of this prompted me to wonder if Ms. Witzke has looked at herself in the mirror lately. Has she not taken notice of the fact that she’s a Vagina-American? And as a “woman,” doesn’t advocating against allowing the distaff half of the population to maintain their franchise run counter to her own interests?
Apologizing “for the rest of my fellow female voters because they are voting our country away” seems, oh, I don’t know…rather arrogant, don’tchathink?- as if she and she alone is the arbiter of how American women SHOULD vote? I don’t think most American would would have her choose their toiler paper, much less how they should cast their vote.
“Women used to not vote because their husband would make the choice for them,” Witzke continued. “Now, if just our husbands and landowners were voting, we’d be in a much better place than we are now. We’d have closed borders. We’d have no infringements on our Second Amendment rights. Red flag laws would be a thing of the past. And we as women wouldn’t have such authority and power over who gets into elected office because we don’t deserve it. The way that women vote, it’s been terrible. I’m apologizing as a female voter for the rest of my fellow female voters because they are voting our country away, and it is extremely dangerous.”
Women don’t “deserve” authority and power over who gets into elected office? Are they not half the population? Do they not contribute to the economy and the raising of children? Do they not give birth to those children? And yet Ms. Witzke says, evidently in complete seriousness, that women don’t “deserve” to vote.
Repeat after me, y’all: “WTF??”
I can only speak for myself, but I’d happily turn over the who mess to women- lock, stock, and barrel. Let them run the show for the time being. I’d wager the number of wars would decline, peace would be easier to come by and would last longer, and humanitarian crises would be addressed more effectively. Best of all, governments at all levels would be more efficient and effective.
WHY would we exclude women from all of that? Because men have penises and testosterone rules the world? Puh-leeze….
Witzke is one of few women in the white nationalist America First movement, whose leading activists are known for misogyny in addition to their white nationalist, Christian nationalist views.
So you’re saying that Lauren Witzke is a self-loathing White Conservative Christian heterosexual who’s also a traitor to her gender? Sounds about right, eh?
If anyone should be ruling the world, it should be a woman. If anyone should be denied the right to vote, it should be men. Men have f****d this up for thousands of years and have pointlessly spilled enough blood to float the Sixth Fleet from here to Venus.
Not a great track record, I’d say.
No, women are not the problem. Penis-Americans, though? Yeah, you could make a pretty convincing argument that war and politics are little more than swinging dick contests- and I know more than a few women who’d run any male politician out of the room. Metaphorically speaking, of course.
So, no, women exercising their franchise isn’t a problem. Nor are minorities doing the same. The problem is autocrat-wannabes in the GOP who can’t win on their own merits and so are devising new and ever-more devious ways to cheat.
And you wonder why I fear for the future of the Republic?
Wir sind SEHR gefickt….
