Better to be thought a fool than to be Marjorie Taylor Greene
The best combination of soup and Nazis since "Seinfeld"
You’d think that by now I’d be accustomed to the brain-dead simpletons in Congress. Sadly, they find so many uniquely stupid ways to draw attention to themselves. But just when you begin to think they couldn’t POSSIBLY do or say anything more thoroughly idiotic…well, there they go again, taking intellectual discourse to new and as yet uncharted depths.
In this case, it’s Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), co-holder of the “America’s Dumbest Congresswoman (dis)honorific (with Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO)), somehow conflating soup with Nazis. It’s a thing of beauty, really, and a classic of the sort only she is dense enough to come up with.
For someone who regularly holds forth with such righteous indignation, MTG displays an appalling lack of basic knowledge. Whether it’s history, government, the Constitution, COVID-19, or science in general, she’s to intelligent, principled outrage what Mississippi is to the social safety net.
Granted, I understand the similarity in the way “gazpacho” and “Gestapo” sound, but if you’re a Congressperson and you want to sound as if you know what you’re talking about as you insult Nancy Pelosi, well, get your $#!& together. The two words may sound similar, but anyone with more than a sixth-grade understanding of English knows the difference between the two.
The problem with MTG is that she lacks the self-awareness to understand that she’s the poster child for the Dunning-Kruger Effect. She lacks the intellectual candlepower to recognize how thoroughly intellectually bereft she is. This unfortunate state of affairs leads to her saying and doing idiotic things with embarrassing frequency.
Even worse, she’s just arrogant enough to believe that she’s the smartest person in the room. But, sadly for her, she’s not even the smartest person in the room when she’s the ONLY person in the room.
MTG also doesn’t realize that her frequent use of Nazi comparisons is highly offensive and renders her arguments laughable and impossible to take seriously. As a result, when they hear her Nazi analogies, many people stop paying attention or laugh at her.
Her addiction to conspiracy theories such as QAnon is inappropriate for a Congressperson. Those who vote for someone to represent them usually expect them to take their responsibility seriously and deal with real issues, not conspiracy theories. Unfortunately, too many of her constituents are as addled as she is.
Don’t get me started on “Jewish space lasers.”
The biggest problem with arrogant and ignorant Congresspeople like MTG is that they’re a distraction from the serious business of Congress. It’s an unwelcome circus sideshow when the other members try to resolve serious issues.
I’m referring to an ideal world, of course, because it’s not as if Congress is accomplishing much of anything these days.
Then again, to quote the erstwhile philosopher Forrest Gump, “Stupid is as stupid does.”
