I've tried to write this post three times already. I keep erasing it. I guess if I write it down it means it's true.
Les passed away at approximately 5:45 AM on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
The cancer tumor caused a bowel obstruction. The obstruction meant that he was unable to eat or drink. We believe his hemoglobin began dropping quickly at that point as well. He was gone in less than 24 hours.
Les wanted to be cremated. There will be a memorial. I am working on the arrangements at this time. I will post them when finalized.
On Feb 21st, I wrote about my friend Les Jenkins. He was going on hospice after fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer that had spread to his liver. He’d decided not to continue fighting his cancer and was fully aware that he had at best a few weeks to live.
I just learned that Les passed away on Sunday morning, and I’m devastated. Yes, I knew this day would come. As much as I thought I’d be prepared for it, though, his death still came as a shock. Life isn’t fair, and cancer sucks. Les should be enjoying his wife and daughter instead of being buried by them, but sometimes life hits you with things you don’t expect.
His wife and sister are doing a GoFundMe campaign to help defray some of the costs of Les’ treatment. So, if you’re able, please give what you’re can to help the Jenkins family clear the debt created by the months of expensive medical procedures (insert argument for Medicare for All here).
My heart goes out to his wife and daughter and those who knew and loved Les. I’ll miss the “WTF?” sarcasm and the righteous memes that Les brought to his blog and his Facebook page. He was one of a kind…and I miss him.
