It would be nice to think that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was serious about negotiating over the debt limit instead of holding our economy hostage. Yes, it would be nice, but it would also be delusional. Unfortunately, McCarthy is as interested in serious negotiations as I am in becoming a card-carrying member of the American Taliban.

McCarthy has a shopping list of spending concessions he’s demanding from the Biden Administration, and he believes he has the leverage to get those concessions. Of course, that leverage is the power to send the US economy over the edge…and, with it, the world economy.
