Edumication Is For Losers and Liberals
All a REAL American needs is Jesus, guns, and Donald Trump
Washington (CNN) - Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell on Saturday told Attorney General Merrick Garland that parents "absolutely should be telling" local schools what to teach amid a debate over mask and vaccine mandates, the role of racial equity education and transgender rights in schools that has become a flash point ahead of the 2022 midterms.
"Parents absolutely should be telling their local schools what to teach. This is the very basis of representative government," McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, wrote in a letter. "They do this both in elections and -- as protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution -- while petitioning their government for redress of grievance. Telling elected officials they're wrong is democracy, not intimidation."….
The letter from the Senate Minority Leader comes in response to a Justice Department effort to address the increase in harassment, intimidation and threats of violence against school board members, teachers and workers in public schools.
I believe that when Pax Americana finally crumbles into the sea, it won’t be because an invading army defeated America. No, Ronald Reagan’s “Shining City on a Hill” will meekly and inevitably devolve into a remake of “Idiocracy.”
Who knew Luke Wilson would represent an honest look at a future AmeriKKKa?
Because America the Stupid is a lot closer to reality than most of us would care to believe.
DUH….
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Mordor) is cravenly mistaken when he says parents “should be telling their local schools what to teach.”
Not just “no;” HELL, NO! Most parents aren’t professional educators. So why do most Americans think they can tell teachers how to do their job? This discussion is something of which I have some knowledge. I was a teacher for two years when I got out of college. I’m here to tell you that too many good, God-fearing, patriotic Americans think teachers teach because they’re too lazy and/or stupid to do anything else.
First, I’d offer one challenge: YOU try standing in front of a class of 20 or more amped-up and wildly out-of-control hormonal teenagers and try to teach them something. I doubt you’d last a day, yet most of y’all seem to think it’s the easiest and most useless thing in the world (“So easy even a caveman could do it!!”). Schools are not warehouses whose sole purpose is babysitting children. They’re educational institutions designed to prepare children for the world they’ll inherit- you know, the one y’all have thoroughly boogered up.
Second, you wouldn’t think of letting someone come into your body shop and let them tell you how to paint that 2021 Ferrari Testarossa you’ve been repairing. So why would you think you can do that to teachers?
No, Parents absolutely should NOT be telling their local schools what they may teach. Yes, they should have a voice in determining the contents of a curriculum. But the design and conduct of that program of studies should remain in the capable hands of professional educators. That’s what they’re trained and paid to do.
There are a couple of concerns I have with allowing parents to determine what teachers may teach:
One, the parents who tend to scream the loudest are the ones with the narrowest and most intolerant and incoherent agenda.
Two, one of the purposes of education is to broaden a student’s horizons. I grew up in a small town in northern Minnesota. When I was in fifth grade, I saw a picture of the Acropolis in a World History textbook. I had no business believing I had any shot whatsoever at seeing it in person. Despite this, I spoke up and said, “I’m going to go there someday.” I don’t remember anyone’s reaction; they may have all laughed uproariously at me. Fourteen years later, I was standing in front of the Parthenon as a couple from Dallas took my picture. THAT’S what education does; it not only allows you to dream, it’s helps you know what to dream of.
Third, I’m tired of ignorant, narrow-minded people thinking they know more than professional educators. Children aren’t the personal property of their parents. And, no, parents shouldn’t have total and complete control over every aspect of their children’s existence. Education is something that society has a stake in, and it should determine what’s necessary and appropriate to preparing a child to face their future. Yes, parents should have a voice in that process. They should not have veto power.
Fourth, do we want a future in which children are as ignorant, hateful, and narrow-minded as some of their parents? Shouldn’t education be a way for those children who want to break the mold and make something more of their lives to do that? I was fortunate to be raised by parents who supported my educational goals, which involved getting out of the small town where I felt increasingly imprisoned. I wanted something different, something better- and I knew that an education was my ticket to getting there.
There was no other way for me. I certainly wasn’t going to waste myself by enlisting in the military (as arrogant as that sounds, it was a different era then, and the military was not revered as it is now).
It’s called “education” for a reason. It’s about teaching children about the world around them. If teachers did what too many parents expect of them, it would no longer be “education.” It would be “indoctrination.” Too many parents are afraid of their children learning the truth. They believe their children should learn the same myths, half-truths, and misinformation/disinformation they studied in school.
If it was good enough for them….
We shouldn’t be teaching our children political ideology or religious doctrine. We should be teaching them facts and truth. They need to learn that which will enable them to think critically and make informed decisions about political ideology and religious doctrine. We should be trusting teachers to educate them in a manner that helps them to understand what really happened. They shouldn’t be propagandized some manufactured history that paints White folks in the most favorable light.
Education means preparing children for the future- because they ARE the future. If we demand that their heads be filled with lies and propaganda, we’re going to see the same sort of madness we’re inundated by today- anger, ignorance, racism, and intolerance.
This is precisely why parents shouldn’t be telling teachers what they can teach their children. A teacher isn’t going to walk into your dental office and tell you how to take care of that root canal, so why would you think you have the right to instruct a teacher as to how to do their job?
Sen. McConnell is, as per usual, playing to America’s lowest common denominator, the Trumpified Far-Right “patriots” who are firmly in the grip of the Dunning-Kruger Effect,
in psychology, a cognitive bias whereby people with limited knowledge or competence in a given intellectual or social domain greatly overestimate their own knowledge or competence in that domain relative to objective criteria or to the performance of their peers or of people in general.
Each generation strives to accomplish more than the previous one. Thus has it always been. Unfortunately, this may well be the first generation that wants its kids to be as ignorant and backward as they are. As harsh as that may sound, you need only to listen to sound bites from school board meetings to know that I’m not wrong.
So, no, we shouldn’t let parents dictate to teachers what they can teach to their children. Education should remain in the hands of professionals, and parents should get behind that. If they love their children and care at all about the quality of life they’re going to have as adults, they’ll do everything within their power to ensure they get the best education possible. They’ll support the dreams and educational aspirations of their children to the best of their ability.
And then they’ll get out of the way and let teachers teach.
Or they can continue thinking of teachers as Marxist agitators who want to turn their kids into raving, godless Left-wing transgender community organizers who want to preach the Gospel of socialism and anal sex.
And their offspring will be left to look forward to brilliant careers pumping gas or working at the corner convenience store in Smallville, USA.
