Go Ahead; Do The Right Thing...Pay No Attention To The Sword Of Damocles

Doing the right thing is fun. If nothing else, it surprises people.

(Full disclosure: My wife works for a pharmaceutical company- not Eli Lilly)
On Wednesday, March 1st, Eli Lilly announced that it would be capping the cost of insulin for all users at $35 per month. There are two ways to look at this announcement:
We should be crediting Eli Lilly for recognizing that cost shouldn't be a barrier for a drug that, for many, is a lifesaver. Insulin for a person with diabetes can be the difference between life and death, though for most, if the disease is managed correctly, it should never be that dramatic. For those who haven’t been able to afford insulin, though, that lack of access can amount to a death sentence.
We could be wondering what took Eli Lilly so long to come around to the reality that the spiraling cost of insulin was an untenable situation for so many. People with diabetes were dying because they couldn’t afford their medication, and Eli Lilly stood by, raking in obscene profits off the suffering of others..
