Few members of the American Taliban have done more to spread hatred of the LGBTQ community than Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO). Of course, she’s not alone in sharing her slander of those who pose no threat to her or other “Christians,” but the hate speech she’s spread hasn’t helped reduce the temperature.
After the mass shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs over the weekend, Boebert wasted no time spreading anti-LGBTQ propaganda and hatred. It was hardly surprising; capitalizing on tragedy is what she does best, especially when it involves a demographic she despises.
U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is being highly criticized for her role in spreading anti-LGBTQ hate and lies after this weekend's horrific anti-LGBTQ mass shooting in her home state of Colorado, which left dead five patrons of a nightclub that caters to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community, and another 25 injured.
Without mentioning any details, including that this was apparently a targeted attack on the LGBTQ community, Sunday morning Congresswoman Boebert tweeted: "The news out of Colorado Springs is absolutely awful. This morning the victims & their families are in my prayers. This lawless violence needs to end and end quickly."
Yes, it needs to end, and she could set an example by starting with her words. Unfortunately, what she fails to understand- or lacks the self-awareness to acknowledge- is that hate speech reaches those willing to weaponize those words.
I’m not saying Boebert is directly responsible for the mass murder at Club Q, but one could make a case that she and those like her are indirectly responsible. When you traffic in speech that glorifies hatred toward marginalized communities, it shouldn’t come as a surprise when someone takes those words to heart and acts on them.
Words have meaning. Words carry weight. And, yes, words can be weaponized.
Among those criticizing the Republican Colorado gun-toting Congresswoman were U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Chasten Buttigieg, husband of the Secretary of Transportation, to name just a few.
"Not only is Boebert blindly pro-gun, she has also spread vicious, dangerous lies that LGBTQ+ people in the U.S. are 'grooming' children," Rolling Stone reports. "A report from the Center for Countering Digital Hate and the Human Rights Campaign found that Boebert was the third most influential Twitter account in the U.S. that spread the harmful and false 'groomer narrative.' Her GOP colleague, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, was ranked number one. Meanwhile, hate crimes against LGBTQ+ people have been rising in areas of the U.S. and internationally. Experts have been warning that increases in anti-LGBTQ hate speech online can be seen as calls to action for extremists and extremist groups."
Boebert has shown herself to be so power-hungry and willing to do or say whatever may be necessary to attract attention that she cares little for the consequences of her words. That’s because she fails to see or take any responsibility for the connection between her words and the actions they may lead to.
Look inward and change? I suspect “looking inward” would be a ground-breaking event for Lauren Boebert.
When you deny the humanity and the right to exist of a demographic that merely wants to live, you forfeit your own humanity. Unfortunately, Bobert has become a black-hearted shrew who cares about one thing- power. She will do or say whatever she needs to advance her political prospects, regardless of the consequences to anyone else.
One might think that after winning re-election by a mere 554 votes, she might emerge from that experience humbled and cognizant of the need to be a servant, not a show pony.
Yeah, about that….
Honey Badger don’t give a @#$%.
Journalist and SiriusXM Progress host Michelangelo Signorile focused on Congresswoman Boebert and her allies Sunday evening.
"MAGA out in force, apoplectic at being told lord and savior Trump, & his henchman -- DESantis, Kari Lake, Matt Walsh, Boebert, Greg Abbott, on & on -- are responsible for inspiring the shooter at the Q nightclub in Colorado Springs," he tweeted. "They're furious, because they're all guilty."
Chasten Buttigieg put the blame at Boebert's feet, tweeting: "You encourage this type of hatred. Get off Twitter and start looking inward."
At this point, I have to stop and have a good belly laugh because these well-meaning souls assume Lauren Boebert is like them, just misguided and searching for a moral center.
Here’s a news flash- she doesn’t have one, doesn’t want one, and is convinced that her “Christianity” is her Be-All and End-All.
Except Lauren Boebert is a Christian in the same way I’m my spirit animal, Charles Bukowski, who would have a field day with Gun Butt Barbie (I just made that one up; whaddya think??).
Yes, she did. Mama must be SO proud.
There’s something that’s not exactly breaking news, eh? But I suspect Lauren Boebert would NEVER assume the indirect responsibility she bears for the mass murder in Colorado Springs. No, she didn’t put the gun(s) in the shooter’s hand, but she may have planted the seeds in his brain.
Public servants must recognize that they represent ALL of their constituents, not merely the ones whose religion, gender identity, and sexuality they approve of. No one’s demanding that Boebert suddenly become pro-LGBTQ; she’ll never be able to expand her narrow mind enough to accommodate that concept. But it shouldn’t be asking too much for her to understand that LGBTQ people are PEOPLE just like her.
As for people who despise those they believe are “less than,” Lauren Boebert could stand to take a long look in the mirror. She might not like what she sees.
Tots and pears, y’all….
