Hypocrites, Morons, Liars, And Elise Stefanik...Oh, My!!!
I'm old enough to remember the days before Trumpism ate her brain
I wanted to embed these tweets because even nine months later, they indicate two very different approaches to the war in Ukraine. One, represented by Rachel Vindman, feels the war intensely. She’s the husband of former LT COL Alexander Vindman, a naturalized American of Ukrainian heritage, who Donald Trump cashiered. LT COL Vindman heard Trump attempt to bribe the Ukrainian President on a telephone call. His reaction ultimately led to Trump’s first impeachment.
The second approach, personified by Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), is pure hypocrisy. Though she pledges support for Ukraine and President Zelenskyy, much of the GOP openly admires Russian President Vladimir Putin and would happily block humanitarian and military aid to Ukraine. And Stefanik would undoubtedly vote with that bloc.
Almost a year later, little has changed. The Biden Administration has provided billions in both humanitarian and military assistance, and Republicans continue to grumble about the need to use that money at home. There’s little doubt the GOP would bitch and moan about that as well. It’s what they do. The idea of using tax dollars to help others- or even just the idea of helping others- is anathema to Republicans on Capitol Hill.
Republicans seem oblivious to the reality that we have sufficient resources to help Americans here at home AND Ukrainians during their time of need. But, of course, if President Biden presented a domestic aid package to Congress, no one would be able to hear anything over the Republican caterwauling.
“America can’t afford it!”
“How are we going to pay for it?”
“How will we know people aren’t going to spend it on drugs?” (Wait. Sorry; that was quasi-Republican Senator Joe Manchin.)
“What programs will we cut to pay for it?”
I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember them asking those questions when Trump wanted his tax cut for billionaires that ballooned the deficit. Republicans passed it like greased lightning.
Of course, Republicans on the Hill are a smarmy lot like Rep. Stefanik, who once had her own voice. Then she swallowed the KoolAid of Trumpism and discovered her shortcut to power. That it involved her becoming a liar and a 24-carat hypocrite was a small price to pay to be so close to the nexus of power. Stefanik paid it willingly. That hypocrisy oozed from every pore was something she neither noticed nor cared about.
As far as she was concerned, everything Trump did was perfect. There wasn’t a lie she wouldn’t tell or a hypocrisy she wouldn’t happily engage in to serve her orange master.
When Joe Biden took the Oath of Office almost two years ago, Stefanik switched effortlessly to blaming him for virtually everything wrong with America from the moment the oath ended. From Day One, every crisis, every problem, and every issue was Biden’s creation. His lack of leadership had America circling the drain, even before the new President had enjoyed his first lunch in the White House.
Gas prices? Joe did that. Immigration? Joe did that. The Green Bay Packers losing streak? Joe did…well, you get the idea.
First of all, Presidents can do little to impact gas prices, which are volatile under the best of circumstances and primarily tied to geopolitical events that affect the price of a barrel of oil.
Second, immigration is a clusterf**k primarily because Republicans have refused to participate in finding a solution. This allows them to blame Democrats- and President Biden- for not fixing the problem. It’s what enables Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to hold a press conference at the border and scream dramatically, “MR. PRESIDENT!! FIX OUR BORDER!!”
Third, the Packers suck, and…OK, not even Joe Biden will be able to fix that gawdawful mess. Besides, I’m rather enjoying watching them implode this season. PUCK THE FACKERS!!
Ah, but I digress (yet again)….
It’s bad enough when liars, cheaters, hypocrites, and morons represent the bulk of the GOP Congressional Caucus, but when they monopolize the leadership of said caucus? Yeah, it’s no wonder they’re all “HUNTER BIDEN’S LAPTOP!!!” all the time. When you have nothing of value to offer, out of necessity it’s panem et circenses 24/7/365- and no one does that better than the GOP.
Perhaps it’s because they’ve had so much practice.
With intellectual and moral titans lightweights like Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Trailer Greene, Paul Gosar, and any Texas and Floriduh Republican, the next Congress will be a lousy re-run of Romper Room.
Elise Stefanik is no dummy, though she’s certainly learned to act like one to fit into Republican leadership. But, unfortunately, while she makes Republican leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) look like Gomer Pyle, neither does she cover herself in intellectual glory. As a result, she shouldn’t count on being on the shortlist for a Nobel Prize anytime soon.
Or ever.
Perhaps she should try coaching the Packers. They’re a mess.
