of course, Nazi dipshits have a constitutional right to be Nazi dipshits. they have a constitutional right to festoon themselves with swastikas and gather in public and spread their message of hate.
but do you know what Nazis don’t have a constitutional right to?
being accepted.
where is the outrage from Florida’s Republican establishment?
Maybe it’s the heat. Or the humidity. Or the stupidity. Whatever, there’s something about Floriduh that makes it different. It’s like Bizarro World in the old Superman comics, a world where everything was the opposite of what it is in our world. You can’t explain it or understand it. All you can do is let the bullshit wash over you and hope you don’t get caught in the riptide. Because if you do get caught, not even your flavor of god will be able to help you.
This story is even more stupid than the usual Floriduh staples- alligators in front yards and snakes in toilets. For whatever reason, Nazis find Floriduh to be fertile soil for their unique brand of hatred and ignorance.
Yeah, because the Third Reich ended so well, right??
To paraphrase the late John Belushi, “I hate Floriduh Nazis….”
I find it interesting that the people carrying signs and Nazi flags don’t dare show their faces. It’s almost as if they know that if they’re identified, they’ll be shamed and shunned. They’ll lose jobs, friends, and probably much more, and so the cowards wear masks because they fear being identified and suffering the consequences.
Because who wants to be associated with a full-blown Nazi, right?
What’s interesting (and more than a little sad) is that there’s been nary a peep from Floriduh’s Republicans. It’s only three little words. How hard is it to say “Nazis are bad?” Those words should not create controversy or require any moral courage to spit out. ANY decent person should be able to find the courage to state the obvious.
So, repeat after me: Nazis are bad.
Nazis are bad.
Nazis are bad.
Nazis are bad.
Nazis are bad.
If you do it enough, it will eventually become habitual. And, if you’re a Republican, you may even start to believe it…because, believe me, Nazis are bad.
where the fuck is inexplicably-unindicted Matt Gaetz? do you think he could take a five-minute break from bragging about his sexual exploits and maybe say something like, oh, I don’t know, “Nazis are bad”?
nope, silence from Matt.
how about Medicare fraudster Rick Scott? nowhere to be found.
hello? is anybody home?
seriously, how hard is it to say “Nazis are bad.”
of course, we know the reason for their silence.
here’s a pro tip, ladies and gentlemen: if you can't denounce Nazis because doing so would anger your base, you're on the wrong fucking side.
we fought an actual war about this, remember?
Yeah, we did, and at some considerable cost. The total dead from WWII is estimated to be between 70-85,000,000 (about 3% of Earth’s population in 1940). The Earth lost between 70-85,000,000 to the Nazi threat.
Yeah, we fought an actual war about it.
And now some inbreds outside Disney World ask us if we’ve thanked Hitler today? For what, killing off 3% of the world’s population? For the ruthless systematic extermination of six million Jews? For the decimation of western Russia?
And now Floriduh Governor Ron DeSantis can’t speak out and denounce the Nazi problem facing his state? Or does his silence make him complicit in what’s happening?
Maybe he’d say something if he weren’t so busy trying to avoid any contact with Joe Biden.
President Joe Biden traveled to Florida on Saturday to survey the devastation from Hurricane Idalia. The president met with GOP Sen. Rick Scott of Florida and other local officials. But one person noticeably absent was Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose office cited the “security preparations” for such a visit that it said would disrupt the recovery effort.
“Security preparations?” If the President can make it to Floriduh from Washington, DC, don’t you think Gov. DeSatan can make it from Tallahassee?? “Security preparations” seems a ridiculously feeble excuse.
Here’s another pro tip: If the President’s going to display the kindness and resolve to come to your state because its people have suffered an unimaginable tragedy, at least have the courage to meet him and shake his hand. You don’t have to act like the two of you are old golfing buddies, but at least acknowledge his gesture. What you shouldn’t do is be a dick and act like he has a social disease that being in his presence will communicate to you.
What’s the quickest way to demonstrate your asshole bona fides? Do what Gov. Ron DeSatan did when President Joe Biden visited Floriduh. DeSatan couldn’t even be bothered to welcome him to the Sunshine State. At least corrupt healthcare fraudster Sen. Rick Scott stopped by to greet the President.
Of course, now that the President has departed Floriduh, and Gov. DeSatan has finished embarrassing himself- at least this time around, there are a couple of other things he might want to consider:
Florida can’t attract teachers but it has no problem attracting Nazis.
trans people are fleeing Florida in fear of their lives, but if you’re a Nazi, Florida rolls out the red carpet.
How FUBAR’d is that? That sort of reality should bother anyone who has their morality and sense of decency screwed on properly. Unfortunately, you can’t say that about Gov. DeSatan, whose moral compass has been broken since before his tour of duty at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.
Not only that, NOT A SINGLE GOP CANDIDATE has come out and said those three little words:
“Nazis are bad.”
It’s almost as if they’re afraid to find out how much of their base is behind the goons in the masks and the swastika flags. And that should scare the Hell out of any decent American. One of our two major political parties is making nice with neo-Nazis.
Yes, we had a war about this, and our Grandparent’s generation already settled it (or so they thought).
Stop asking musicians what they think
He said softly as he poured himself a second drink
And outside, the world slipped over the brink
We all thought we had nothing to lose
That we could trust in crossed fingers and horseshoes
That everything would work out, no matter what we chooseThe first time it was a tragedy
The second time it's a farce
Outside it's 1933 so I'm hitting the barBut I don't know what's going on anymore
The world outside is burning with a brand new light
But it isn't one that makes me feel warm
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawnIf I was of the greatest generation I'd be pissed
Surveying the world that I built, slipping back into this
I'd be screaming at my grand kids: "We already did this"
Be suspicious of simple answers
That shit's for fascists and maybe teenagers
You can't fix the world if all you have is a hammerThe first time it was a tragedy
The second time it's a farce
Outside it's 1933 so I'm hitting the barBut I don't know what's going on anymore
The world outside is burning with a brand new light
But it isn't one that makes me feel warm
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
For the dawnAren't you ashamed of this? I surely hope that you are
Living in a society that's maybe heading for Mars
But down here we still have a shower of bastards leading the charge
Outside it's 1933 so I am hitting the barBut I don't know what's going on anymore
The world outside is burning with a brand new light
But it isn't one that makes me feel warm
Don't go mistaking your house burning down for the dawn
Frank Turner, 1933
Yeah, “WE ALREADY DID THIS!!”
Who says history isn’t circular?
Republicans need to be shamed into denouncing their Nazi supporters because until they do, they’ll continue to be associated with an ideology responsible for 70-85 million deaths during WWII. Specifically, German Nazis were directly responsible for the “Final Solution,” which resulted in the murder of six million European Jews simply because of their heritage.
That’s what Republicans are consenting to, whether they care to admit to it or not. And until they come out and denounce Nazism and its followers, they will continue to be associated with it.
They may not be able to see the world slipping slowly over the brink, but we may wake up one fine morning to realize that we have Republicans to think for lacking the moral courage to say three simple words:
Nazis are bad.
