If I Had A World Of My Own, Everything Would Be Nonsense
Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast!
The message here is that to be a leader in the GOP you must lie to voters. Telling the truth is disqualifying.
I made a promise to myself that I was going to refrain as much as possible from veering into politics. I plan to keep that promise (maybe)…but this, at least to me, isn’t about politics. It’s about one of our major political parties that is so willfully and knowingly divorced from the truth that they’d swallow two cups of motor oil and proclaim it to be the best drinking chocolate they’d ever imbibed…if Mango Mussolini so proclaimed it.
The reality is that we live in an America that is not merely divided red from blue. No, that’s far too simplistic. America today is a country divided between those who pursue and cling to the truth…and those who believe the truth to be whatever Donald Trump tells them it is.
Truth is not relative. It’s not fungible. Or negotiable. Or dependent upon circumstances. Or liable to change depending upon the direction of the political, moral, religious, and/or legal winds. Truth IS. I’m talking about the reality that some things simply ARE. No massaging, no propaganda, no manipulation of reality. Two plus two equals four. The sun rises in the east. The Houston Asterisks cheated their way to a World Series title in 2017. Sean Hannity is an ignoramus. Tucker Carlson couldn’t find his ass if you spotted him a flashlight, a map, two sherpas, and a GPS system.
Truth is not something that gets negotiated, renegotiated, litigated, relitigated, and rehashed until those with an agenda are happy with the outcome. There has to be a point where people agree that things are what they are because the truth is what it is. As a country, we used to understand that. Now, millions of Americas are convinced that Joe Biden isn’t even a legitimate President- this despite NO credible, verifiable evidence to back this claim.
So now the GOP is in the process of symbolically disemboweling those among their membership who refuse to prostrate themselves in service of the Big Lie. That “Big Lie” is that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen from Donald Trump. That there’s absolutely NO- zero, zip, none, nada, bupkis- evidence to support this assertion has no meaning to those who KNOW. It’s the BELIEF that counts…and it’s that belief and one’s willingness (or lack of same) to accept it that will determine one’s future in today’s GOP.
If we cannot as a country at least agree on what truth IS, how can we have any hope of moving forward? How can a country living in two diametrically opposed realities continue to call itself “great?”
Hey, man, I can believe a half-dozen impossible things before breakfast….
MAKE AMERICA RATIONAL AGAIN.
Or is that asking too much from people no longer capable of existing in the realm of the rational?
