Since I’m vacationing in the South, I thought it only natural to write about the South….
I’ve written about Jarrin Jackson before, an all-around (not-so-very) nice guy running for a seat in the Oklahoma Senate. As much as I try to respect the faith of others, Jarrin Jackson is as much about the teachings of Jesus Christ as I am the winner of the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize. That he’s going off at considerable length about something Jesus said precisely nothing about is bad enough. That he’s decided to refer to transgender people “Islamicizing [their] genitals” is just about the weirdest/dumbest/funniest damned thing I’ve heard from a “man of God” in quite some time.
Of course, I realize that Jackson probably got his Divinity degree from a box of rancid Pop-Tarts. Still, his latest theological broadside is…well, pretty fucked up, to borrow a technical theological term.
Jackson, a radical right-wing activist and conspiracy theorist who is running for a seat in the Oklahoma Senate, declared during his daily livestream Tuesday that transgender individuals are “Islamicizing [their] genitals” by undergoing gender reassignment surgery.
Given that Jackson is a “Pizzagate” conspiracy theorist, it was hardly surprising that he used his livestream to accuse parents of transgender children of engaging in child abuse.
Jackson brought up a 2017 post on Reddit from a parent desperately seeking advice on how to help their transgender child, which he used to accuse that parent of being “criminally negligent” before telling transgender people that they are rebelling against God by “Islamicizing your genitals.”
Jackson probably couldn’t have chosen a better way to demonstrate his lack of compassion, something you wouldn’t think you’d find in someone who preaches the word of God. Then again, Jackson also displays a phenomenal lack of knowledge regarding issues surrounding sexual identity.
Listen to Jackson long enough, and you might begin to believe that compassion, tolerance, and understanding aren’t in his vocabulary- and you probably wouldn’t be wrong.
In his world, everyone belongs in one of two boxes- male or female- and God doesn’t make mistakes.
“Genesis 1 [says] God made man in his image, male and female, he created them,” Jackson proclaimed. “God’s categories are good categories. God’s plan is a good plan. It’s a good order. Most of what we see today is a rejection of God’s order. Most of what we see today are people seeing what God has made and choosing to reject it and deny it and destroy it and to molest it.”
It should be noted that Jackson’s relying on the Old Testament, a document that dates back to several centuries prior to the birth of Christ. To presume that a set of rules several millennia old could somehow apply to today’s world is absurd. If that were the case, we’d still be driving carts pulled by donkeys, and women would be giving birth in mangers.
Despite what Jackson may think, the world doesn’t work as he believes it should. It’s not black and white. It’s not simple. And it’s not something defined by a set of rules laid out in Genesis 1.
Gender dysphoria is a real thing, and there’s substantial research to prove it. Jackson’s rejection of this doesn’t negate its reality. Some people, for whatever reason, feel as if they were born the wrong sex. There are no clear explanations for this phenomenon, but it happens, and it’s the source of much anguish and heartache.
Fortunately, modern medical science has the means to change this for some, and that not-so-simple change can be a life-saver. I can think of a handful of people I know for whom it allowed them to be the person they felt themselves to be all along.
And Jarrin Jackson believes he has the right to judge those taking these steps because they’re “Islamicizing their genitals?”
People like Jackson don’t have to like it, but they have no right to interject themselves into how someone else lives, nor the decisions they make for themselves.
“That father, I believe, is criminally responsible for manipulating and grooming his daughter,” Jackson said of the parent in the Reddit post. “It’s his son, by the way. It’s not a daughter. That father was criminally negligent to his son because that father has not built his worldview on truth. The son is suicidal. The son is messed up physically, chemically, emotionally, relationally, truthfully.”
“It’s not ‘bottom surgery,’ it’s mutilation,” Jackson declared. “You’ve Islamicized your genitals. You’ve Islamicized yourself. Muslims do genital mutilation for women that have sex or commit adultery. That’s what Muslims do. You are Islamicizing your genitals.”
Speaking only for myself, I’m grateful that I never had to face the feeling of being trapped in the wrong body. I can’t begin to imagine what it feels like to deal with gender dysphoria. I believe a caring and compassionate person would support an individual making what they believe to be the right decision for themselves. That doesn’t mean we have to be 100% in agreement with that choice, but it’s not ours to make or judge. If we care for that person, we should support them- whatever their decision may be.
As for Jarrin Jackson, it’s none of his g—d——d business. His ignorant, arrogant, fear-based religion may be important to him, but it need not matter to anyone else. Truthfully, if your faith requires you to be as ignorant and hateful as Jackson, you should probably find another religion.
There’s nothing good that can come from such ignorance and paternalism. Beyond that, perhaps we should acknowledge that Jarrin Jackson is a mean, nasty, horrible person who uses Christianity to camouflage his being a judgmental asshole.
If you look at his campaign website, it’s not going to do much to disabuse you of that notion. It’s full of Trumplican talking points and the ignorant, ill-informed propaganda typical of Mango Mussolini’s acolytes.
“Christ, not communism?” Really? I’d defy him to provide even one example of communism in American governance, but being a Trumplican, Jackson provides no such example. Evidently, we’re supposed to take his inflammatory assertion on faith…’cuz he’s a “man of God,” don’tchaknow.
The rule of law is ignored because people do not fear God. The Bible is God’s word and is sufficient for leading a prosperous and peaceful life. Public officials need to appeal to the authority of Scripture more often and with greater deliberation. Elections should be one day, conducted using watermarked paper ballots, with results announced on Election Day.
Right…and people should be forced to arrive at their polling places in a horse-drawn carriage driven by their trusted enslaved African.
Oh, and American governance is predicated on the separation of Church and State- BECAUSE of people like Jarrin Jackson, whose ignorance- and fear-based father would turn America into the set of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
As a “man of God,” Jackson should understand enough of the Gospel to be conversant with Jesus’ teachings on compassion, kindness, tolerance, and acceptance. Somewhere along the line, he decided to cherry-pick the Old Testament to develop his own personal hatred-fueled theology. He’s a man of God in the same way I’m an NBA point guard.
His political and theological doctrine is based on the same tired GOP “keep ‘em scared and stupid” playbook that seems to be required reading for Republicans this election cycle. Who needs ideas when you can convince the sheeple that Liberals are communist groomers?
Culture: Sexual “liberation” and Darwin’s lie of evolution have misled an entire generation of Americans to believe that God does not exist and that degenerate sexual behavior should be accepted. Our children are being exposed to sexually explicit materials at a young age in public school, and have become the targets of the worst kinds of sexual predators. We must speak out and root out perversion from our society for the sake of our children. Moreover, we must give every child the opportunity of life, and raise every child to love their neighbors as God loves us, instead of hating others because their skin color fits a narrative.
Of course, sex and sexuality is not one-size-fits-all. And defining what’s “right” and “wrong” certainly shouldn’t fall under the authority of a Christian mullah like Jarrin Jackson.
Sexual predators and “groomers” aren’t roaming the halls of our public schools, except in the perverted and overheated imaginations of Christocrats like Jackson who wield their faith like a shillelagh.
Jackson speaks of raising “every child to love their neighbors as God loves us,” but virtually every other word he speaks is defined by hatred. His endorsement of bigotry and ignorance hardly speaks well of someone hoping to become a state senator.
Civil Rights: Oklahomans have been bullied and suppressed in the interest of medical tyranny for far too long. Armed police forcibly shut down my restaurant in March of 2020. The unconstitutional and ineffective mask and vaccine mandates must end. We cannot tolerate government totalitarianism in a free society. Employment should never be indexed to a government-forced protocol, and those who have forced experimental vaccines on the people of Oklahoma must be held criminally liable. Oklahomans deserve elected officials who have the courage to say, simply, “that’s illegal”, “I’m not doing that”, and “you can’t force them to do that.”
Whether Jackson cares to admit it or not, COVID-19 is real, and his focus on “medical tyranny” is, like much of the Republican party, responsible for many of the nearly one million American lives claimed by the pandemic.
The vaccines intended to help prevent COVID-19 were neither “experimental” or “forced” on the people of Oklahoma. America was in the midst of a deadly pandemic, and the vaccines provided the only way to help immunize Americans from a deadly virus.
Jackson was free to refuse to be vaccinated, but he wasn’t free to escape the consequences of shirking his responsibility to the wider community. The COVID-19 pandemic was never all about him. It was about all of us. If Jackson was too ignorant or selfish to grasp that basic reality…well, that’s on him.
Jarrin Jackson’s problem is that he’s ruled and defined by his hatred, prejudice, and selfishness- and he lacks the self-awareness to understand that. Not only is he firmly in the grip of the Dunning-Kruger Effect, he lacks even the barest shred of compassion and love for those who are different.
Instead of focusing so much hatred and judgment on transgender people, who by and large hurt no one, he might be better served to get his own poisoned house in order.
It might be time for Jarrin Jackson to confront the truth that he’s Islamicized his brain and that he’s nearly beyond redemption.
