Kari Lake- Aggressively Dishonest And Built To Stay That Way
American Taliban Christianity never sounded so smug, pretentious...and thoroughly dishonest
Yeah, I know; another tiresome and agonizingly arrogant MAGA Republican with the chutzpah to compare herself and her compatriots to Jesus Christ. It would be easy to ignore, except that Kari Lake, once a fairly reasonable Phoenix news personality, has lost her ever-loving mind and gone full-on MAGA.
Repeat after me: WTactualF?? How does a reasonable, well-adjusted, successful woman suddenly decide to chuck it all, dive into the deep end of the MAGA toxic sludge pond, and run for Governor of Arizona?
Damned if I know. In most other states, she’d probably be on a court-ordered Thorazine drip. In Arizona, she’s the darling of the state GOP, which collectively is as off-the-charts crazy as PeeWee Herman pleasuring himself at the 50-yard-line of an Arizona Cardinals game.
It's time for a quick check-in with Kari Lake, the batfuckingcrazy QAnon Republican person running for governor of Arizona. Lake recently emerged from behind her "Comfy Cozy Candidate" Zoom filter to speak to humans in the flesh at a church, and it was time for a Bible religion lesson, because church.
The lesson of the day was about persecution, because you know who is persecuted? White fundamentalist fascist Christians. And you know who persecutes them? Joe Biden, when he calls them names.
That damned Brandon, always calling them “semi-fascists” and such, as if he’s so high and mighty.
Is it the “fascist” part that upsets people like Lake? Or the “semi” modifier?
“You can call us whatever you want, Joe. You can call us extremists. You can call us domestic terrorists. You know who else was called a lot of names, his whole life? Jesus,” Lake proclaimed, pointing to a cross displayed in the corner of the stage.
“He never stopped. He never stopped. They called him names right up until his death. So why should we care what Joe Biden thinks of us?” she continued as the crowd burst into applause….“Do you think that our founding fathers really cared what King George said about them? I don’t think so. And they all had bounties on their head, by the way, hopefully that doesn’t get to that in this country,” she concluded.
Of course, we hope it doesn’t get to that (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). But, if it does, we have patriots who are more than ready to do what needs to be done, right?
If Lake had actually listened to what Biden was saying, she’d understand that the President was spot on. She doesn’t want to admit that she and her compatriots are toying with destroying democracy because they want to at least maintain the illusion that they give a damn until they no longer need to.
As if Lake’s “we’re just like Jesus” schtick wasn’t bad enough, she decided to go full racist on the congregation. Of course, that really wasn’t a problem, because she knew her audience wasn’t exactly opposed to her message.
In case you didn't catch the parallel she's drawing — it's very subtle! — she's saying MAGA people are just like the founding fathers, who literally led a war for independence from King George. But hey, don't call these people seditionists or domestic terrorists or extremists!
In related news, in the same church event, Kari Lake decided to prove she wasn't afraid to copy off Donald Trump's paper and say offensive racist things Trump has already said. It's not like she's going to offend any of the bigots who love her and also love Trump.
But which racist thing would she say? Trump has only said about 75 million racist things in public in the past decade, how could she possibly choose? Oh, just the Mexican rapist one? She likes that one? Fuck it, she's sayin' the Mexican rapist thing.
Yep, she went there. Unapologetically. And full bore. Because that’s what Arizona Republicans have to do to succeed today. And NO ONE does it as well and as shamelessly as Kari Lake.
Well, strictly speaking, that’s not true- not even close, but it’s an election year, so who’s going to take the time to check? Most of her audience has probably already made up their minds and were probably quite receptive to her offensively racist and Trumpian performance.
She doesn’t even have to worry about trafficking in facts or truth. All she has to do is to play on the emotions, prejudices, and fears of White Arizonans, which she’s doing like a virtuoso.
At one time, Kari Lake may have been a good person. She may have even cared about people other than herself, and possibly even those in lesser circumstances. Somewhere along the line, though, whatever goodness once resided in her was erased and she went full MAGA. She jettisoned her friends and her sole focus became hateful, racist, and vindictive enough to convince Arizona voters that she deserved to be their Governor.
She’s laid on the American Taliban Christian hypocrisy as if it’s a renewable resource, which it is. Her racism became second to none in Arizona. And her insatiable capacity for hatred and spitefulness won her the GOP nomination. Now she’s using her skill in front of the camera gained from her years as a TV news personality to her advantage.
Lake’s become the very picture of evil, racism, and Christian hypocrisy. Still, she’s comfortable in front of a camera or a microphone, so her evil comes in a very palatable package.
It’s entirely possible that Kari Lake may be the most dangerous Republican in America today- even more dangerous than Floriduh Gov. Ron DeSantis. Where DeSantis is transparently evil and partisan, Lake is far more subtle and understated. Both are capable of doing damage, but I think Lake can do far more far sooner while attracting far less attention than DeSantis, who knows nothing of subtlety.
Lake will stick to the “Big Lie” even though at some level she has to know that she’s embracing a bald-faced lie. There’s NO credible evidence that proves the election was stolen. Despite more than 60 court cases and ample opportunity for Donald Trump and his minions to present evidence of fraud and deceit, none- zero, zip, nada- has been presented.
In fact, Trump’s own government has stated that the 2020 election was the cleanest and fairest on record. And yes, the person who made that statement was fired shortly after making it…making it no less true.
So, as if this bears repeating- the 2020 Presidential election was not stolen. Period. End of Story. Get over it. Kari Lake may continue to embrace the “Big Lie,” but that’s all it is- a big lie. And there’s nothing that Lake or anyone can do to make it more true. Donald Trump legitimately lost by more than seven million votes. And he lost convincing in the Electoral College, which is what really counts.
“Would you agree that we had a corrupt, stolen election?” No, we did not. Not by any rational measure. And if Kari Lake continues to push her lies and propaganda, she has no business being Governor of Arizona. With any luck, she won’t be.
