MAGA- A crime is never really a crime when Donald Trump commits it
Double standard? WHAT double standard? The law simply doesn't apply to him.
I would prefer an intelligent hell to a stupid paradise.
Blaise Pascal
There have been few things more…well, entertaining isn’t quite the word I’m looking for…than watching MAGA apologists trying to justify Donald Trump’s myriad crimes.
People like Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton have devoted much time, energy, brain power (what little they possess), and money to arguing that Orange Jesus was exercising his right to contest an election he felt was fraudulent. Never mind that no evidence has ever been presented to support this contention. Mango Mussolini lost to Joe Biden by eight million votes in an election most informed observers agreed was fair and above board.
Claiming an election was fraudulent doesn’t ipso facto make it so. That requires evidence supporting a claim of wrongdoing. Despite losing 60+ court cases and presenting no evidence, Trumpbots continue to scream, “STOP THE STEAL!!”
I’m not sure what Fitton may or may not have been doing on January 6th, 2021, but if he’d bothered to turn on his television, he would’ve noticed an abortive coup attempt at the U.S. Capitol. Of course, that coup was planned by Donald Trump and executed by those who took orders from him. And the January 6th committee has the receipts.
This is not about Joe Biden or the “Political Left” seeking to “suppress/jail” political opponents. No, the crimes were committed on national television. The entire country saw it happen. Nor is this about political retribution. It’s about justice, something fascists like Tom Fitton know little and care even less about.
The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection released a 150-page summary of its findings and voted Monday to send the Justice Department criminal referrals for former President Donald Trump and others who assisted his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Right-wing political groups and leaders generally responded either by ignoring the historic action altogether or by dismissing it as a partisan move without engaging substantively with the committee’s extensively documented findings.
Far-right activist Ali Alexander, who was a leader of the so-called “Stop the Steal” effort to overturn the 2020 election and keep Trump in power, called the committee’s criminal referrals “a coup against the voters.” Alexander, who participated in the recent disastrous Kanye West and Nick Fuentes appearance on Alex Jones’ show that turned into a festival of praise for Adolph Hitler, also released a statement purportedly on behalf of “Team Ye,” accusing Democrats and the “Republican Establishment” of working together “to rig our GOP primary or choose which candidates can be in the ballot before the American Voter.”
As for Ali Alexander’s characterization of the committee’s referral of Trump as “a coup against the voters,” I’d ask only one question- whose voters? And remember that Mango Mussolini lost by eight million votes, so it’s certainly not a “coup” against Biden voters. As for Trump’s voters, as the minority, their guy lost the election. That’s how democratically-run elections work in a representative democracy.
“One person, one vote.” The candidate with the most votes wins. It’s a pretty simple concept. You don’t have to like the results, but you don’t get to stage a coup, knowhutimean??
So it’s “completely partisan” when a committee spends months following the evidence, holds hearings in public, endeavors to be as transparent as possible, and then comes up with conclusions you don’t like? Again, Mr. Carl, I’d submit that you have NO idea what it’s like to live in a functional democracy.
Living in a functional democracy means sometimes things don’t turn out as you prefer. Sometimes your guy loses, and sometimes, when he commits crimes that can be easily documented (because he’s a flippin’ moron who’s not smart enough to cover his tracks), he’ll be held accountable. That’s what a functional democracy and justice system look like. Again, you don’t have to like it, but no one cares about your preferences. That’s because the system is working as it’s supposed to.
And you, Mr. Carl, can go pound sand. That’s what time it is.
Former Trump attorney and self-styled “America’s lawyer” Jenna Ellis claimed, “It’s all a political pretext with zero basis in fact or law”—a ridiculous statement given the committee’s meticulous gathering of evidence, including testimony from many Trump administration officials.
I realize Ms. Ellis got her law degree from Trump University, but she shouldn’t be allowed to represent jaywalkers in traffic court. Her opinion is worthless because of the genuinely ridiculous things she’s said during and after Orange Jesus’ Reign of Error. I wouldn’t allow her to represent me if she was the last lawyer on Earth; I’d plead insanity and beg the court's mercy- even if it was only a jaywalking charge.
Not to be outdone, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene dismissed the House committee as “communist.”
Yeah, that’s about what I’d expect from Marge, who’s to reasoned, factual debate what Hannibal Lecter was to the finer points of a vegan lifestyle.
Her unredacted ignorance and lack of self-awareness speak volumes without me commenting further.
Writing in his daily email newsletter, longtime religious-right activist Gary Bauer called the committee a “kangaroo court” and referred to the criminal referrals as outgoing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi “seeking to extract one last act of revenge against Donald Trump.” Bauer was similarly grumpy about the committee referring four Republican congressmen to the House ethics committee for refusing to comply with committee subpoenas. Bauer didn’t defend their defiance of the law but railed against what he called a “despicable precedent established by petulant progressives.”
Pizzagate promoter Jack Posobiec greeted the conclusion of the committee’s final public meeting with a message on Telegram: “Bring it, demons.” Posobiec didn’t pass up the chance to raise money, urging his readers Monday night to buy Christmas presents from MyPillow using a code that would presumably give Posobiec a cut: “Jan 6 wasn’t an insurrection to overthrow the govt but promocode Poso is an insurrection to overthrow prices this Christmas!”
Given that Gary Bauer wants to turn America into a carbon copy of Gilead from The Handmaid’s Tale, anything he says should be taken as a laugh line. Bauer sees everything through American Taliban-tinted lenses. “Fair” to him would be Donald Trump executing Nancy Pelosi in a guillotine and her severed head bouncing down the steps of the U.S. Capitol.
To Bauer, nothing a Republican does could be beyond the pale, while he’d impeach a Democrat for using a urinal in the Senate men’s room. What he decries as a “despicable precedent established by petulant progressives” is Democrats doing their damned jobs. To Bauer, holding Republicans accountable- for anything- bears the evil mark of Satanic intent.
And on Wednesday, Dec. 28th, even more evidence was released by the House January 6th Committee. And much weeping and gnashing of teeth were heard from the Conservative side of the aisle. Of course, that will happen when your guy’s guilty as sin, and the receipts show as much.
And, yes, I rather enjoyed the sound of pointless, impotent bitching and moaning. It was truly a refreshing balm to my soul.
Your opening quote from Pascal reminded me a little of Milton's Satan from "Paradise Lost." Such, indeed, is what an intelligent hell would look like.
The extent to which both the DoJ & the J6 Committee have pretzeled themselves to avoid the appearance of political interference is worth noting here as well. They've all carefully waited until well after the election to present conclusions, offer recommendations, &/or commence proceedings. It has been frustrating waiting this long, but here's hoping Garland will finally release the kraken.
