Marjorie Taylor Greene: Smug, ignorant, and self-satisfied is no way to serve in Congress
Why is she even there if she won't take her job seriously?
I distinctly remember the post-election responses from Conservatives after Donald Trump “won” the 2016 Presidential election”:
“GET OVER IT! TRUMP WON!!” Yeah, the “F—K YOUR FEELINGS!!” crowd certainly had some fun at our expense, didn’t they? They boasted and rubbed our noses in their victory, and they thoroughly enjoyed every classless minute of it.
Fast forward FIVE years, more than a full year after the 2020 Presidential election, and the “F—K YOUR FEELINGS!!” crowd is STILL wanting those of us who voted for Joe Biden to respect their pain. After all, they contend, THEY WUZ ROBBED!! EVERYONE KNOWS THERE WAS MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD AND THAT TRUMP WON BY A LANDSLIDE!!
(It was “F—K YOUR FEELINGS!!” Not OUR feelings!!)
Except that’s not what happened at all. Not even close. No one has presented any credible evidence of voter fraud that occurred anywhere, and what few cases were found were Republicans voting more than once. Moreover, more than 60 courts around the country threw out claims brought by the Trump campaign alleging fraud.
There. Was. No. Fraud.
So why, then, do Republicans in Congress like Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) insist on pushing the fable that Joe Biden isn’t the legitimate President? Why can’t they accept that their guy lost and move on like mature, rational adults?
If you watch Taylor Greene in the two above clips, her smug smile clearly indicates that she doesn’t get it. Being in Congress is a game to her. It’s not about legislating; it’s about advancing an extremist agenda and gumming up the gears of government to whatever degree possible.
Taylor Greene is part of a political party that no longer has a plan or agenda, save for opposing everything President Biden hopes to accomplish. If the President proposes it, the Congressional Republican Caucus is absolutely, implacably, diametrically opposed to it. It doesn’t even matter what it is. If it has the Biden imprimatur upon it, Republicans treat it as if it’s the Mark of the Beast.
It’s no wonder that Americans have such a low opinion of Congress. Yet, one party is trying to get things done even as the other is pouting, crying, and throwing sand in the gears. In a time when serious issues need to be addressed and resolved, Republicans insist on playing political games and blaming Democrats when things go wrong.
Marjorie Taylor Greene may represent the extremist/dullard edge of the Far Right, but she’s part of the Republican Caucus. Yes, she’s lost her committee assignments, so she has plenty of time to play gadfly. She uses that free time to irritate anyone who will listen and raise money off her reputation as an obstructionist.
The two callers highlighted above are correct. Not only is Taylor Greene an embarrassment to her north Georgia district, but she’s also an embarrassment to Congress and the country. No one so intellectually and morally bereft has any business in Congress, which is a solemn honor and responsibility and not a game.
Would that her colleagues in the Congressional Republican Caucus could also take their responsibilities seriously. Their obstructionism and self-superiority have long since grown old and tired.
