Mark Robinson- A walking, talking ad for Christian love (not) and Thorazine
Robinson wouldn't recognize the Prince of Peace if He showed up with an AR-15 and the ghost of Billy Graham
I suppose I’ve become somewhat spoiled, living as I do in the Pacific Northwest, a part of the country where politics rarely get out of hand. The last time something unusual happened here was when a group of Right-wing nutcases took over a federal nature preserve in southeastern Oregon a few years ago.
No one here in Oregon would’ve noticed if not for the national media attention. The nutcases chose a part of the state where no actual people live and a time of the year when the nature preserve was closed, so would anyone have even noticed? If someone invades an unoccupied nature preserve and no one’s there to raise an alarm, did it even happen?
Yes, that’s about as weird as things get here in political terms, but Oregon’s a blue state, so things are usually pretty sane. State and local politics generally possess all the excitement of watching Larry re-stock the cigarettes behind the counter at the convenience store down the street.
Yes, Oregon is definitely not North Carolina, where it appears Republicans have lost their fucking minds. How else might one explain current Lt. Governor Mark Robinson, who, as of Super Tuesday, is now the official GOP candidate to be the next Governor of the Tar Heel State?
What the actual fuck is going on there, y’all?? Is the state no longer paying for your Thorazine??
I have a close friend and former neighbor who currently resides with his family in Raleigh (and I still have to ask…why?) who’s been keeping me in the loop from that end. Still, even he can’t begin to explain the walking, talking advertisement for psychotropic medications in the person of Mark Robinson. The man is…well, to say he’s a fair bit off-center wouldn’t begin to do it justice.
Something is seriously wrong with the Lt. Governor, but no one, least of all North Carolina Republicans, seems willing to call him out.
That fucking batshit insane person running to be the Republican governor of North Carolina, Mark Robinson? The one who thinks transgender people should poop outside? The one who called the Marjory Stoneman Douglas mass shooting survivors “media prosti-tots”? The Hitler-quoting Holocaust minimizer-slash-denier who has called gay people “filth” and “maggots” and thinks the Black Panther movie was made by a “satanic marxist,” and that it “was only created to pull the shekels out of [Black people’s] Schvartze pockets”? The man who wants to abolish abortion and who puts a Black face on rank southern white supremacy? Oh yeah he won.
This is a pretty good start, but it only scratches the surface. Even worse, Robinson has no actual legislative program except to make things miserable for people he disapproves of- which seems to be most North Carolinians who aren’t Republicans.
It’s surprising (it becomes less so the more you listen to him), but despite his minority status, Mark Robinson “has a shocking history of bigoted, offensive, and frankly, deranged remarks.”
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is a menace to society who’s somehow been legitimized by being elected by the good, God-fearing, White Conservative Christian Cisgender Heterosexuals of North Carolina.
The inmates are now officially running the asylum.
Impressively, in a Republican Party infested with the likes of Marjorie Trailer Greene, Lauren Boebert, Paul Gosar, Andy Biggs, Chip Roy, and so many other intellectual and moral low-lifes, Robinson can give any of them a run for their money. He’s at least as grotesquely offensive, and in some cases even more so, than any Republican out there…and that’s a pretty low bar.
As if to prove his wackadoodle bona fides, Robinson has dog-paddled in the deep end of Holocaust denial:
Robinson has been accused of Holocaust denial. “There is a REASON the liberal media fills the airwaves with programs about the NAZI and the ‘6 million Jews’ they murdered,” he posted on Facebook in 2017, happily putting the number of Jews murdered by the Nazis inside of quote marks. The following year, he wrote: “This foolishness about Hitler disarming MILLIONS of Jews and then marching them off to concentration camps is a bunch of hogwash.”
It gets worse and even more offensive, but Robinson is absolutely, positively NOT down with the idea that Hitler is responsible for the murder of six million Jews.
He’s also posted quotes from Hitler and urged Conservatives to re-read Hitler’s words. And, like many anti-Semites, he has an axe to grind with financier George Soros, accusing him of somehow coordinating the Boko Haram kidnapping of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls in 2014.
Has he blamed Soros for the Carolina Panthers having yet to win a Super Bowl? That should be fun….
Robinson also posted a long Islamophobic rant on Facebook referring to Muslim-Americans as “INVADERS.” He called Muslim-Americans “anti-American” separatists who “refuse to assimilate to our ways while demanding respect they have not earned.”
Hmm…you mean like what virulent White racists sometimes accuse Blacks of?
Et tu, Brute??
Robinson has referred to abortion as “murder” and a “moral evil, like slavery.” Did his ancestors have abortions? Is that why he’s so angry?
He’s made it clear that he would “absolutely” ban abortion from the moment of conception. (This is why Republicans advocate for “small government”- government so small it would fit in a woman’s vagina)
Interestingly, Robinson admitted in 2012 to paying for an abortion (hopefully not his own).
Hypocrite much??
Robinson’s shameless and coarse misogyny can be breathtaking in its depth and breadth- especially for someone asking for the votes of women in the Tarheel State. He’s admitted wanting to take America back to a time when women couldn’t vote.
So, he’s asking women to vote for him so he can then take America back in time and then take away their franchise? How are you going to pull that one off, Smiley??
He has mocked actresses for protesting sexual harassment in “whore dresses” while defending Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby as victims of a left-wing “plot” to silence them for their “so-called sexual crimes.”
In various Facebook posts, he has attacked a number of prominent women in crass and grotesque ways. For example, Robinson called Joy Behar a “she-beast,” Hillary Clinton a “heifer” and Michelle Obama a man.
He seems nice. Surprisingly, he’s been married since 1990 and has two children. I can’t feel sorry for his wife; she made her choice…but living with a piece of work like Mark Robinson has got to test a woman’s patience. His wife is either a saint or…I hesitate even to go there….
In what should come as a revelation to no one, Robinson hates the LBGTQ community with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. The word “filth” is featured frequently when Robinson talks about anything relating to LGBTQ issues.
(I’m beginning to think it would be easier- and a much shorter list- to figure out who Robinson likes.)
Robinson is a proud homophobe and transphobe. His long record of dehumanizing rhetoric includes referring to gay people as “maggots” and denouncing same-sex relationships as a “FILTHY ABOMINATION,” and a “satanic cult of sexual perversion.” He has issued no apologies or retractions.
Robinson not only wants to ban transgender women from women’s bathrooms but also have them arrested, too. “Find a corner outside somewhere,” is his advice to members of the trans community.
Robinson also has little use for science that doesn’t march in lockstep with his “kill-’em-and-grill-’em” Christianity (seriously, does his cherry-picked, hate-filled theology even qualify as “Christianity?”).
Robinson is a climate denier. He has referred to the scientific consensus on man-made climate change as “unproven science” and “pseudoscience, junk science, that has not proven a single solitary thing.”
For Robinson, “God is the one who has blessed us to have all this fuel under our feet” and not burning fossil fuels is an “affront” to the Lord.
Given Robinson’s other hatreds, it should come as no surprise that he hates Martin Luther King, Jr., whose faith Robinson has often questioned. That’s OK, though, because one Orange Jesus thinks Robinson is “even better” than MLK.
“I think you’re better than Martin Luther King. I think you are Martin Luther King times two.”
In looking at Robinson’s extensive and hateful record, it’s easy to wonder why and how he’s been allowed to get away with what he has thus far.
That’s a question with an easy answer: He’s an outspoken Black Republican, a political unicorn that Republicans can use to “disprove” accusations of racism.
, though, asks some questions Democrats would be well-advised to ponder over the next few months:Can Democrats succeed in making Mark Robinson a national poster child for the unhinged and far-right GOP in the run-up to the 2024 elections?
Will the media hold Republicans to account over Robinson’s candidacy?
Will Congressional reporters chase House and Senate Republicans down hallways and ask them to comment on his quotes?
Will campaign reporters put Trump on the spot over Robinson’s grotesque remarks?
Can you imagine the national uproar if a Democrat had engaged in Holocaust denial while Biden heaped praise on them as the next MLK?
While those questions are all valid and useful and should be examined and parsed at some considerable length, I feel like we’re burying the lede:
Why is no one asking the people of North Carolina the equivalent of “DUDE, SERIOUSLY….WTF???”
Mark Robinson only rises to power if a plurality of Tar Heel State voters cast their ballots for him. S,o WHY is that happening? Why are so many North Carolina voters lining up behind a racist, homophobic, transphobic, Christofascist, misogynistic, climate-science-denying, Islamophobic, Hitler-loving, anti-Semitic, batshit insane, flaming asshole who possesses not an ounce of Christian compassion and couldn’t live a Christ-like life if you held a Bible to his head?
Seriously? This is the person the North Carolina GOP believes is best equipped to lead the Tarheel State into the future? Robinson stands for dragging the state back to the 17th century, if not further.
What’s next, putting heretics in stocks in the village square? Burning witches? Bleeding the sick with leeches?
There’s one thing I’d like for someone in the North Carolina GOP to explain to me. Robinson considers himself to be a “devout Christian.” Yet there’s nothing of the love, compassion, and kindness found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ anywhere in the words or life of Mark Robinson. I’ve never seen him so much as smile; rage seems to be his default setting. He’s hateful, rage-filled, highly judgmental, unbelievably self-superior, and distressingly intolerant of anyone who doesn’t think, live, believe, live, and love as he does.
Then I wish someone would tell me if there’s ever been a time when Mark Robinson has smiled…or at least hasn’t been on the verge of becoming homicidal. It’s hard to see how someone so thoroughly miserable and constantly rage-filled can be getting any enjoyment out of life.
Or perhaps that’s how he “enjoys” life. What a sad, miserable excuse for a human being. And the good people of North Carolina might elect him as their next Governor in November? That’s what’s unbelievably pathetic.
