Mass Shootings? That's Easy; Let's Blame Single Mothers
It's so easy to understand when you break it down scientifically
(h/t to Robyn Pennacchia)
Yeah, it was probably just a matter of time before someone on the Far-Right went to Tucker Carlson and his He-Man Woman-Hater Club with the latest theory on who’s REALLY to blame for mass shootings.
Are you sitting down? ‘Cuz you probably should be.
So who is to blame for all this, really? Women. Feminists in particular.
While at least this time they're not claiming, Jordan Peterson-style, that these shootings could have been prevented by "enforcing" monogamy in order to make it easier for violent psychopaths to score a girlfriend, there's no shortage of Twitter threads about how these tragedies happen because women don't know their place anymore, because feminists murdered masculinity and won't let any boys be "courageous" anymore, or because single mothers ... exist.
Yes, that is correct, the same people who want to take our reproductive rights away are also pretty sure that single mothers are to blame for all of society's problems, mass shooters in particular.
Surprised? You shouldn’t be. In fact, the only surprise is that it took the intellectual and moral giants of the Far-Right two days to develop this theory- because they blame single mothers for virtually everything else.
Let’s face it; fatherless homes are responsible for boys underperforming in schools, boys being unable to have girlfriends, the Green Bay Packers being so successful…AND for young adults going on shooting rampages. It’s a (not so very) logical progression if you think about it. A father walks out on his family, a boy has unresolved abandonment and anger issues, so when he turns 18 he buys a couple of assault rifles and attacks a school.
And ALL of this happens because women simply don’t know their place in the world. Of course, this theory should probably be taken with a large grain of salt. It should come as no surprise that those who came up with it are…wait for it…arch-Conservative men. I know, what a shock, eh?
Duh, it’s all SO easy when you break it down scientifically, amiright??
One of the chief progenitors of this theory is Jason Whitlock, who used to be a fairly sensible commentator on ESPN until the worms ate his brain. His hypothesis is that young men are carrying out mass shootings because Americans are attacking masculinity and traditional male values.
Who’s responsible for this? Well, according to Whitlock, it’s the Liberal pussies in Northern California who run social media sites. And single mothers.
In an interview on Fox News Channel, that bastion of all that’s true and holy, Jesse Watters, who never met a Liberal he couldn’t/wouldn’t trash, attempts to elicit some truth from Jason Whitlock:
JESSE WATTERS (HOST): What do you think is the main factor in our culture that's triggering this kind of rise in mass shootings, especially at schools?
JASON WHITLOCK (BLAZETV HOST): Cowardice. Fear and cowardice. Our culture is controlled by fear and cowardice. Masculinity, traditional male values, are under attack. There's — it's not any mystery why young boys are confused, angry, confused about their identity, angry at the world. Their natural instincts have been under attack probably the last 50, 60 years and most acutely in the last 15 to 20 years since we turned over our culture to the pansies in northern California and their social media apps.
They're imposing their view of the world, their standard for manhood on the rest of us. And we men have been cowards and have taken it. And so I look at that — your opening segment, and people are wondering why the police didn't do anything, didn't run in. They exist in a culture totally controlled by fear and cowardice.
We haven't created a culture that supports men doing what comes natural to them — protecting women and children. That's what comes natural to us when we're allowed to be men. But this new culture we've built is set up to totally annihilate, eliminate our natural instincts and make us think, oh, the people in northern California know better than God about what a man is and what a man should do. Men, boys, under attack. They're acting out angrily and we are too cowardly to do anything about it.
Wow. SO much to unpack there, eh? First of all, social media apps aren’t imposing their view of the world on anyone. Certainly, they are some unhealthy aspects to social media, but apps like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are ways teenagers communicate, not plot One World Domination with Mark Zuckerberg.
Second, whose “standard of manhood” gets to be the dominant paradigm? Do we expect today’s males to be able to hunt, kill, and skin a deer? What, exactly, are we talking about when it comes to a “standard of manhood.” Unless something is codified in a manual or a handbook somewhere, I’d have to believe that any “standard” is quite fluid.
Third, “men doing what comes natural to them- protecting women and children?” Perhaps in the days when we lived on the open prairie and had to fend off marauding bands of bloodthirsty natives or criminals. Today, though, that part of a “standard of manhood” is seldom, if ever, applicable.
Last but not least, I’m not certain I want Jason Whitlock, or any other Conservative, defining a “standard of manhood” across the board. As if manhood could possibly be covered by a one-size-fits-all definition.
Does a man really need a woman to act as if they need to be protected in order to protect his fragile masculinity? Many of the women I know are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves. I also know a number of men who couldn’t protect a cream cheese bagel, much less a woman. Protecting a woman is hardly what comes naturally to them.
The truth is that Fox News Channel will give just about anyone air time if what they have to say supports their Conservative, Liberal-bashing narrative.
In the aftermath of a mass shooting such as what happened in Uvalde, TX, there’s an understandable desire to understand WHY and HOW something so abjectly horrific could happen. Humanity doesn’t deal well with such questions when there’s no obvious answer. Conservatives don’t operate well in a vacuum, and so they look for easy, pat answers.
Certainly, fatherless homes and single mothers may be one part of the problem, but it’s a complex problem with no easily identifiable key cause. People kill for any number of reasons, and the same is true for mass shootings. Since the Uvalde shooter is dead, we’ll probably never know exactly why he locked himself in that classroom and opened fire.
As much as we might want to have certainty, some questions don’t have answers, and “WHY??” remains a plaintive cry lost to the grieving process and the ravages of time.
Rest assured, though, that single mothers are NOT responsible for the increase in mass shootings. No, that responsibility lies with the one thing Conservatives and Proudly Closed-minded Gun Control Foes refuse to acknowledge- the easy availability of weapons of war. If people couldn’t purchase weapons of war, mass shootings would be far more difficult to undertake.
If we’re going to start looking for ways to stop mass shootings, shouldn’t we begin with the most obvious problem instead of trying to solve everything BUT the problem?
Single mothers and the Liberal pussies in Northern California who run social media sites aren’t the problem. Conservatives who want to discuss everything except for the obvious problem are.
You see, it really IS so much easier when you break things down scientifically.

As a single mother, I would like to confess my crimes. I am, as you might already know, responsible for all mass shootings, Glenn Beck’s gay frogs, and for musicals.
