Melania Trump is an angel of God like I'm Taylor Swift
We know this because InfoWars tells us so...LOL...stupid is a many splendored thing
It was an accident that has endowed man with intelligence. He has made use of it: he invented stupidity.
Remy de Gourmont, Philosophic Nights in Paris
I’m well aware that a whole lot of people are metaphorically pissing all over former First Lady Melania Trump for not wearing a black outfit to fellow former First Lady Rosalyn Carter’s memorial service in Plains, GA, yesterday.
Was Mrs. Trump making a statement? Was it a fashion faux pas? Was it another sartorial version of her “I DON’T CARE DO U?” jacket she once wore during her husband’s Reign of Error ©?
I’m only speaking for myself here, but I neither know nor care what the answers to those questions are. Mrs. Trump had the decency to show up at Mrs. Carter’s memorial at a time when the entire Trump family is considered persona non grata. That she wore an understated grey tweed jacket may not be the custom in this country, but it’s not a law. She “violated” a social expectation, not a statute with actual consequences.
I despise Marie Antoinette Trump as much as anyone, but this seems like your basic tempest in a teapot. At least she had the decency to arrive clothed, no? Everything else, to me, at least, is just details. She was there to honor Mrs. Carter; how about everyone just back off a few steps?
Most news coverage of yesterday’s memorial service for Rosalynn Carter simply noted that the service was attended by Joe and Jill Biden, along with all four living former first ladies — Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, and Melania Trump — and left it at that. A few snarkier sites like Page Six and New York Magazine’s Intelligencer pointed out that, unlike the other first ladies who dressed in black because that’s traditional for a funeral, Ms. Trump chose a grey tweed coat instead. They reported it as a fashion don’t, while at least being relieved that Melania Antoinette left her “I REALLY DON’T CARE DO U?” coat at home.
Chip Carter, Jimmy and Rosalynn’s son, told the Washington Post that regardless of the many mean things Donald Trump has said about his father, it went without saying that Melania Trump would be invited, because “My mother was a gracious person and she would treat everybody with respect, including a former first lady.”
Indeed, Mrs. Carter was eminently gracious, and I doubt she would’ve been flapping her gums about Marie Antoinette Trump’s attire. She would’ve been honored that Mrs. Trump chose to attend. As universally despised as the Trump family is, I think it took tremendous courage for her to show up, and she should be recognized for that. It couldn’t have been a comfortable situation for her.
Grey tweed? Black? What difference does it make? Perhaps it’s not a choice you or I might’ve made, but I don’t think it’s the international crisis some of the media is trying to turn it into.
How about we lighten up?
Because the story of Marie Antoinette Trump’s attendance at Mrs. Carter’s memorial took one helluva weird turn, courtesy of one Alex Jones:
I’m not generally one to even acknowledge the existence of InfoWars, but this is just too precious (and f*****g weird, even for Alex Jones) to pass on.
“Melania Trump Cast in Angelic Light at Rosalynn Carter Funeral as ‘Evil’ First Ladies Wear Black, Lurk in Shadows?” Seriously?? Couldn’t it be an odd coincidence, a weird confluence of time, the windows, and the sun?
No, it’s obviously Marie Antoinette Trump being “clothed in the light of God.” And the other “evil” First Ladies were wearing black and “lurking in the shadows”? Did they have daggers behind their backs? Were they carrying poison potions? Had they trained in the dark arts in the days before the memorial, knowing that Mrs. Trump would be there?
Could the rhetoric BE any more over the top?
And then there’s Alex Jones’s InfoWars, whose coverage pointed out that only Satanists wear black to a funeral, whereas Melania was singled out for attention by God, who arranged for some light from the windows at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church in Atlanta to fall on her, and her alone, with some slippage, during one part of the service.
You’ll note that this story is under the heading “Occult and Globalists.”
Comedy gold, people. Comedy gold. It doesn’t get much better.
Under the subject heading “Occult & Globalists,” the headline proclaims, “Melania Trump Cast in Angelic Light at Rosalynn Carter Funeral as ‘Evil’ First Ladies Wear Black, Lurk in Shadows.” (“Evil,” is a quote from one of the many tweets in the story, not necessarily the judgement of InfoWars, wink-wink.) Just to make sure readers get the point, the story’s subhead quotes another tweet that said “Take notice how Melania is clothed in the light of God, while the others sit in the dark world they live in with Satan.”
So that’s some serious journalism, and we must all start paying attention to sunlight patterns in all TV news video, that we may better understand God’s communications to humanity. Sure are a lot of demons around these days! Must be the End of Days, or a normal week in rightwing media.
The story also made sure to mention the wingnut conspiracy theory that Michelle Obama is actually a dude, but we wonder if some of the faithful will take issue with InfoWars’ admission that Donald Trump is a former president:
The wife of embattled former President Donald Trump appeared alongside Michelle “Big Mike” Obama, Laura Bush, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Joe and Jill Biden, but received a chilly reception from leftists and mainstream publications who complained she wore light attire, while others wore black.
The story highlighted tweets accusing Michelle Obama and Laura Bush of “glaring” at Ms. Trump, and featured another that, ha-ha, suggested Bill Clinton couldn’t stop staring at her ass, because with MS-Paint, everything is possible. (Seriously, Clinton was looking more or less straight ahead.)
I watched bits and pieces of the memorial service, and at no time did I notice anyone “glaring” at Mrs. Trump. Everyone was there to remember Rosalynn Carter, who was a kind and gracious woman. I don’t think anyone wanted to disrupt that vibe.
Why would anyone be so petty and small in such a moment? I’ll go out on a limb and hazard a guess by saying the former First Ladies are better people than that.
If InfoWars was trying to show that former President Bill Clinton was checking out Mrs. Trump’s ass…well, they succeeded, no? And that’s apropos of precisely nothing.
This is an example of the media trying to create a controversy where none need exist. Yes, it’s easy to despise Marie Antoinette Trump. She’s a loathsome example of a First Lady and a human being. That’s neither excuse nor reason for the media- even InfoWars- which is journalism in no world I’m familiar with- to create an uproar out of whole cloth…or, in this case, grey tweed.
Of course, “God’s light” shining on Mrs. Trump didn’t go unnoticed around the Trumposphere:
There are more examples, but my stomach can only take so much.
It was sunshine, y’all!! Sunshine!! Not “God’s light” or “Angelic light” or whatever euphemism you might want to use. Marie Antoinette Trump is as much a Christian as I am a former eight-time Boston Marathon champion. I doubt she’s willingly seen the inside of a church since childhood. So let’s not go imputing qualities to her that we know damned well she doesn’t possess.
The “outrage” that was “sparked” existed in the imagination of the mainstream media and those on social media. It makes for good copy, but it’s essentially bullshit.
Did she stand out “among a sea of black clothed mourners? Perhaps so, but what of it? Show me the rulebook, chapter and verse, where it says that one must wear black to a funeral under pain of death. You won’t find it because it doesn’t exist. Nor should it. I’m attending my mother-in-law’s memorial at the end of December…and probably won’t wear black. Does that make me a bad person…or just one with a limited wardrobe?
Feel free to hate Marie Antoinette Trump because she’s a miserable human being and married to Orange Shitler. Or hate for her for any one of a thousand other reasons. Lord knows there’s no shortage of reasons to despise the woman. She’s a classless, clueless, selfish, mean-spirited woman who has the personality of RoboCop.
But, seriously, hating her for wearing grey tweed to Rosalynn Carter’s funeral? Grow the fuck up already.
We’re better than this.
