Just when you thought the War on Christmas had been won

This just in: Donald Trump is the Grinch Who Stole Christmas

Time was when Republicans truly, deeply cared about Christmas. Or at least they cared about the political symbolism of Christmas. They could, and often did, simultaneously wax rhapsodic and self-righteous about the indignities piled upon the holiday intended to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Instead, with the cooperation of Fox News Channel, the GOP has turned Christmas into a celebration of Right-wing grievance politics.

For a one-time donation of $75, you can have a cheap (and free!!) MAGA-hat Christmas tree ornament (almost certainly made in China) to help you get into the holiday spirit. Such a deal, eh??

Of course, such a nakedly transparent money grab begs the question of who’s fleecing whom. In this case, it’s pretty apparent that Donald Trump is trying to fleece his followers of yet more money. If you believe that a fool and his money are soon parted, Trump’s strategy makes sense- slap his name on something cheap and appeal to his lowest common denominator base. Then step back and watch the money roll in from the provinces.

It worked in 2016, it almost worked in 2020, and who knows what might happen in 2024? Evidently, the rubes will send Trump money for anything short of stringing Nancy Pelosi up on a gallows outside the U.S. Capitol…and almost certainly even for that.

Besides, Donald Trump REALLY wants you to have one of these adorable little (emphasis on “little”) ornaments. Because the war on Christmas may exist only in the minds of doctrinaire, intolerant Conservatives, but that war isn’t going to run on good looks and positive vibes, knowhutimean?

The Donald loves you…and he needs your money.
