Republicans who despise Donald Trump...but would vote for him in 2024
It’s no secret that the YUUUUGEST loser, the man who lost the 2020 Presidential election by seven million votes (and yet still claims he won by a landslide), has the GOP by the balls. For reasons it’s difficult for most rational folks to understand, Donald Trump is still the Godfather of the Republican Party. More than 16 months after his defeat, the GOP is still ruled by a loser- and most Republican elected officials remain terrified of incurring that loser’s wrath.
Virtually any Republican candidate running for any important state or national position must make a pilgrimage to Mar-a-Lago to kiss the ring of the Donald and seek his imprimatur for their campaign. Trump’s endorsement still matters, even as his endorsed candidates are losing.
Trump’s grifting still brings in millions, both for himself and the GOP. The most recent incident was a raffle in which the winner was supposed to win an opportunity to meet the Donald in New Orleans. Except that after selling thousands of dollars in tickets, the prize was never awarded. Staffers called it an “administrative error,” but it’s the sort of stunt typical of an ex-President who’s never stopped fleecing his followers.
Perhaps the worst part is that GOP leaders, people who know all too well what Trump is about, have on occasion spoken their minds about the Grifter-in-Chief. They’ll tell you how terrible Donald Trump is. When it comes down to it, though, they say that they’ll vote for Trump if he runs in 2024. In other words, they despise his flexible morals and self-serving ways, but if he’s the GOP nominee in 2024, they’ll vote for him.
Right. If you thought the GOP was the party of morality and integrity, you might want to guess again. I’m not even sure the “America First” party stands for America over Russia.
American national security policy objectives have historically been to first and foremost determine how to protect American interests. Lately, though, it’s been difficult to tell who Republicans support- the American government or Vladimir Putin. But, of course, when you consider the millions of dollars in Russian money that has flowed into the campaign coffers of some Republicans, it makes sense that their allegiances might be somewhat compromised.
Since the war against Ukraine began, many on the Far-Right have been openly rooting for Putin and the Russian military. Given what Putin stands for and what’s happening in Ukraine, one has to question how Republicans can in good conscience support that. Also, when one considers the war crimes committed by Putin’s forces in Ukraine, it isn’t easy to imagine that any American with any humanity could get behind that.
More than three million refugees have left Ukraine- half of them children. Russian forces are shelling hospitals, apartment complexes, food distribution centers, and other civilian areas- these are all war crimes. Yet so many Republicans see nothing wrong with supporting Russia in their fight to oppress Ukraine.
I’m not going to claim that Democrats are perfect- far from it- but you don’t see Democrats openly supporting a ruthless dictator who’s suppressing free speech at home and committing war crimes in a country that posed no threat. You don’t see Democrats meekly pledging allegiance to a moral reprobate who doesn’t have a selfless bone in his body.
Since Donald Trump was elected in 2016, Republicans have proven themselves to be concerned with one thing- political power. It doesn’t matter how that’s achieved or who gets hurt along the way. The ONLY thing that matters is the achievement, consolidation, and maintenance of political power so that they may create a permanent Republican majority.
In the estimation of the Far-Right, democracy is for losers and Liberals. Republicans have little use for the trappings of democracy because when it’s allowed to work as intended, democracy means there’s the possibility they might lose political power. That’s something they simply can’t countenance, so if they have to cheat- or worse- to maintain their power, so be it.
This is why you see so many red states enacting voter suppression laws directed at minorities and traditionally Democratic constituencies. Because when Democrats are allowed to vote, Republicans sometimes lose, not something that the Far-Right wants to see. Therefore, they must enact laws that make it more difficult for those traditionally Democratic constituencies to vote.
Hey, if you can’t beat ‘em, cheat ‘em….
The problem, of course, is that the GOP used to claim to have a monopoly on honesty and integrity. Though that was never true, they presented themselves as the party of honor, decency, and Christian virtue.
GOD’S A REPUBLICAN, DON’TCHAKNOW??
The truth is that God is neither Republican nor Democrat and America isn’t a Christian nation but rather a secular nation with a majority-Christian population. Therefore, the wall between Church and State is and must remain sacrosanct, as was intended by the Founding Fathers.
Even if that wasn’t true, though, Republicans have shown themselves to be little more than hypocrites driven solely by an all-consuming lust for power caused by Partisan Derangement Syndrome. They’re too far gone to be salvaged. Whatever moral compass may have once guided them has long since been cast aside for the immediacy of their lust for power.
At this point, they’re all YUUUUUGE losers.
