Philly's I-95 Bridge- Proof That Democrats Do Government Far Better Than Republicans
It doesn't have to be that way, but Republicans no longer give a damn about governing. Not to worry, though; at least we'll always have Randy Rainbow.
Congratulations to President Joe Biden and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. Less than two weeks after the disastrous accident and resultant fire that destroyed a section of I-95 in Philadelphia, the state of Pennsylvania and the federal government got their acts together. While they couldn’t reopen all of the destroyed lanes in such a short time, they were able to temporarily restore one lane in each direction.
Thus, a complete and utter clusterf**k has been reduced to merely a significant traffic headache. Not ideal, certainly, but it’s a step in the right direction. And it means Philadelphia will be moving again, albeit slower than many might like. It also means that the repairs can move toward a permanent solution faster than anticipated.
This is what happens when government works. It’s what government is intended to do. And it’s what happens when government stops behind about “gotcha” moments, political games, and the politically-motivated Republican bullshit you see in Washington 24/7/365.
More than anything, this is what Democratic governance does. It’s not that the GOP is incapable of such positive action, far from it. They simply choose to waste their time and considerable energy on meaningless, pointless crap like MTG and Lauren Boebert acting like schoolgirls on the floor of the House.
“I wanted to impeach Biden!!”
“NO, I wanted to impeach Biden!!”
Yeah, neither of y’all gets to impeach Biden because you’re acting like petulant children who don’t realize that you don’t impeach a President just because. You impeach a President because he’s committed high crimes and misdemeanors…like The Former Guy.
‘Course, most Republicans still believe The Former Guy’s s**t doesn’t stink, despite the mounting evidence that the man is, was, and will always be a felon looking for a place to be convicted. He believes he’s above the law and will do and/or say whatever it takes to throw ANYONE under the bus so they can take the rap for him. The Former Guy has the right to remain silent. Unfortunately, he lacks the ability to do so.
Republicans could accomplish a good deal if they chose to act like adults and do what they were sent to Washington to do. It’s not that Democrats are inherently superior human beings (though the behavior of too many Republicans is cause for concern), but more that Republicans have collectively chosen to be dicks.
There was a time when Democrats and Republicans would fight like cats and dogs during business hours in the House and Senate…and then go out for drinks and dinner afterward. They may have lacked commonality when it came to ideology, but Democrats and Republicans could at least find common ground in civility and camaraderie.
They could at least do business and find a way to move the country forward. It may not have involved ideal solutions for either party, but in most cases resolution could be found…unlike the gridlock that characterize Washington today.
These days, most hard-core Republicans believe that Democrats are of the Devil. They’d sooner hand them a cigarette and a blindfold than share a dinner table (or anything else) with them.
It’s much more difficult to get things done when you see your ideological adversary as Satan Incarnate instead of someone who sees the world differently. Being a Democrat doesn’t mean that I’m the corporeal archetype of all that’s evil and unholy, but there are those on the MAGA side of the fence who wouldn’t piss on me if I was on fire. And, frankly, there are more than a few of them I feel similarly about. It’s a deeply unfortunate state of affair, but the distance between Left and Right is, in too many cases, and unbridgeable chasm.
Politics shouldn’t be a blood sport, yet that’s precisely what it’s become. The media spends most of its time and energy focusing on The Former Guy and his legal trouble. And the GOP is determined to kneecap Democrats in an effort to allow The Former Guy to skate. Yes, it’s history, but it’s also sickening and tiresome. It’s The Former Guy in all his tiresome, sickening “glory” 245/7/365.
For whatever reason, the GOP lacks the courage to tell him to fornicate himself and disappear. Instead, they’ve hitched their wagon to him. The 2024 GOP Presidential nominee may be a convicted felon SERVING TIME IN A FEDERAL LOCKUP. Roll that around your brainpan for a bit, eh?
And you can bet that Republicans will find a way to blame that on Joe Biden. Yeah, why take responsibility for your own IRresponsibility and inability to select a nominee who isn’t a felon? How about that?
Somehow the Party Of Personal Responsibility © has become the Party of Blame, Whine, and Deflect ©…and it’s their own damned fault. It didn’t have to be this way.
I’m not trying to belittle or run down Republicans. No, they’ve done a damned fine job of that on their own. As I’ve said many times previously, the GOP has chosen the path of laziness, pettiness, and weak candidates no one would ever mistake for Henry Clay, Dwight Eisenhower, or Abraham Lincoln.
But, back to the I-95 bridge. Would the same quick solution have been found if the Governor of Pennsylvania and the President had both been Republicans? Perhaps. It’s entirely possible that The Former Guy and a Republican Governor would’ve arrived at a similar solution. But The Former Guy would’ve taken credit for everything because no one was ever allowed to be given credit for anything good when he was around. Yes, ONLY he could’ve fixed it.
There’s no “i” in “teamwork” unless The Former Guy’s involved, and then he sucks up all the oxygen in any room he occupies. And the GOP has caved under the force and weight of his massive, out-of-control ego. So, yeah, one of America’s two major political parties is- not to put too fine a point on it- a complete and irredeemable f*****g mess.
So when I say Republicans can’t govern, this is why. Do you REALLY think the GOP would’ve had the I-95 bridge up and running less than two weeks after such a disaster? If you do, I’m not going to be able to rescue you from the cloudcuckooland you call home.
Of course, if you think I’m full of shit, you could always vote for this guy. At least you’ll get some show tunes out of the deal.
Please don’t say I never give you anything.
All of this is spot on. I loved Randy Rainbow videos, they're cutting and funny, because they're so accurate. At this point, the GOP is irredeemable. I believe the only chance they have of ever pulling themselves out of the abyss they've so gleefully jumped into is them to keep having electoral losses, especially Biden winning again in 2024. But they also need to lose the House, more seats in the Senate, and in congresses, and governorship's around the nation, for at least another 2 to 4 years. If this happens, it might finally break them of their addiction. That and Trump being convicted of multiple felonies too.
