The difference between Kevin McCarthy and horse s**t? You can shovel horse s**t.
And horse s**t has far more integrity and credibility
“I'm not stupid!” In Bean's experience, that was a sentence never uttered except to prove its own inaccuracy.
Orson Scott Card, Ender's Shadow
I almost feel sorry for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Almost. Except that he’s so pathetically and willfully craven and power-hungry. He so openly lusted after the Speaker’s office that he was willing to do almost anything to achieve it. That it turned him into a national joke was of no concern to him.
I might be willing to give the Speaker the benefit of the doubt if he wasn’t such a miserable excuse for a human being. He’s a lousy liar who seems blissfully unaware that the rest of the world is smart enough to know that he’s a terrible and transparent liar.
Worse, he’s caved to the absolute worst elements of the House GOP Caucus, the kill-’em-and-grill-’em Freedom Caucus. Most of the Freedumb Caucus are convinced the Earth is flat and still drag their knuckles as they walk onto the House floor. And Speaker McCarthy has the audacity to mention “integrity”- as if he knows what that means.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is being put on blast for “hypocrisy” after he booted two Democratic lawmakers from their committee assignments.
McCarthy on Thursday kicked Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) off the House Intelligence Committee, a move critics said was little more than payback for Democrats giving the boot to Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) from their committees in 2021.
“Integrity matters more,” McCarthy wrote in a letter to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and then posted online.
Critics were quick to point out that McCarthy put Greene, a conspiracy theorist who spoke at a white nationalist event last year, on both the oversight and Homeland Security committees. He also gave two committee assignments each to Gosar and Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.), the lawmaker facing calls to resign from within his own party after his long list of lies was revealed.
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Kevin McCarthy? If you’re like me, it would be “petty, pathetic, and hypocritical.” He’s demonstrating it by refusing to seat two of the most honest Democrats in the House on the Intelligence Committee.
For Speaker McCarthy to kick Schiff and Swalwell off the Intelligence Committee is about as petty and partisan as it gets. It does nothing to serve the interests of the American people. And it’s not the only example of McCarthy’s smallmindedness and hypocrisy.
I’m not sure what Speaker McCarthy is committed to. But, whatever it may be, it’s not “returning the House Intel Committee to one of genuine honesty and credibility that regains the trust of the American people.”
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. I have exceedingly low standards regarding politicians and integrity. When it comes to political animals, I expect to be lied to. I ask only that they don’t insult my intelligence and put some effort and art into their deception and deceit.
Be creative. Make me work at least a little bit to discern the truth. Don’t make the lies so stupid and inartful that I can see through them in a New York minute. That angers me because it insults my intelligence.
Kevin McCarthy doesn’t care that he’s insulting the intelligence of Americans, which, to be honest, is a pretty low bar. Yet he never bothers to put even a minimum of effort into his lies, probably because he assumes we’ll accept them at face value.
What the Speaker doesn’t realize is that he lacks credibility. No one with any native intelligence has ever been willing to take Speaker McCarthy at his word because it’s worth nothing. He has zero credibility and even less integrity, so why should anyone, except his toadies, take anything he says at face value?
This may be trite, but it's true in Kevin McCarthy’s case. The best way to arbitrate his honesty is to determine if his lips are moving. If words are issuing forth from his lips, you can rest assured that dissembling and prevarication are occurring.
Because when Speaker McCarthy boots two Democrats known for integrity and industry in favor of White Nationalists, racists, homophobes, morons, and assholes, the only defense he has is mendacity. And since that’s McCarthy’s default, it comes easily to him.
As for “genuine honesty and credibility that regains the trust of the American people,” Speaker McCarthy wouldn’t recognize those things if they arrived at his Capitol Hill office with new kneepads and a fresh tube of lipstick.
Integrity didn’t win him the speakership. If that had been the case, it wouldn’t have taken 15 rounds of voting. But, no, he sold his soul to the Freedumb Caucus, and now America is learning the price the zealots extracted from him.
Because Dumber and Dumberer will be the theme for the next two years in the Republican-majority House.
Buckle up, America; the Stupid has only just begun.
McCarthy is the poster boy for gaping stupefaction. Only, in his case, the definition of "gaping" is the one you would find at Pornhub, and not Merriam-Webster.
