I realize this may come as a total surprise to anyone with a functional frontal lobe, but it appears that the Trump White House was staffed with some of the worst people imaginable. I know; go figure, right?? Calling them immature, self-absorbed careerists would be charitable, but this is a family show, so y’all will have to settle for that.
Sure, there were the neo-Nazis, the Christian Fascists, The “Whats-in-it-for-me?” oligarch wannabes, the “Kill-’em-all-let-God-sort-’em-out” Christians, and the Trump suck-ups, and when it all went south, most of the rats jumped ship. The fun was in watching how some of them reacted to the stress.
Garret Ziegler, who looks like he could’ve been promoted directly from an SS battalion, proved that loyalty was essential- until the time came to throw his colleagues into the fire.
[I]t was an around-the-clock game show of who could be the biggest idiot in the room (which would have been way more entertaining if it hadn’t actually shredded the fabric of American democracy). The latest in this parade of egotistical buffoons: Garrett Ziegler, a former aide to Peter Navarro, the former assistant to former President Donald Trump.
Ziegler met with the House Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot on Tuesday. Afterward, he live-streamed a tirade on Telegram against the panel— calling them Soviet Union communists and accusing them of being anti-white—and against his female former colleagues. Clips of the reportedly 27-minute-long rant were recorded and posted to Twitter, where they unsurprisingly have gone viral.
The short version is that Herr Ziegler didn’t exactly cover himself in glory, though he did succeed in blaming several others for his plight. So much for taking responsibility for your actions.
Of course, the Third Reich didn’t end in a blaze of glory. Instead, it collapsed with a pathetic whimper and a battalion of scared former Nazis who tried to cover their asses with the prostrate forms of their colleagues. That goes a long way toward explaining Garrett Ziegler.
And, for being “the least racist person,” Ziegler clearly doesn’t understand the definition of “racist.” The Republican Accountability Project nabbed a few screen captures of his Telegram account, and what they found is hardly “least racist.” Change “least” to “alarmingly,” and you’ll be closer to the truth.
Eighty years ago, Ziegler would have happily led an SS unit at a Nazi concentration camp in the service of Der Fuhrer. Recently, he served the interests of America’s Fuhrer-wannabe, Donald Trump. Only the methodology and the body count differ.
Of course, Garrett Ziegler isn’t the only rat on the SS Trump looking to save his ass. His cowardice is exceeded only by his inability to lie with aplomb. But, then again, Donald Trump was never known for attracting the best and brightest.
Trump attracted scores of sycophants who were known to burn the high octane of situational ethics and fungible morals like himself. So it’s not difficult to understand why things ended in the FUBAR’d manner they did.
In a separate Telegram post, Ziegler has called the Jan. 6 insurrection “one of the greatest orchestrated false flags in history,” according to CNN.
In another clip, Ziegler said he wasn’t a “fame f*g” and then railed against Ben Shaprio. A conservative who visibly hates Ben Shapiro gives you the best idea of exactly what kind of “conservative” Ziegler—who went on to say Shapiro is selling “solar yarmulkes”—is.
For “one of the least racist people,” Ziegler has an odd way of demonstrating his tolerance and acceptance of those who aren’t White, Conservative, heterosexual, and Christian.
Not that Ben Shapiro isn’t deserving of being mocked, of course, but his Judaism should be off-limits. That has nothing to do with anything. His idiocy and inability to grasp complex subjects are fair game, and he opens himself up to criticism daily. His faith tradition, however, is and should be beyond the pale, even for someone as “alarmingly racist” as Garrett Ziegler.
The [Republican Accountability Project] also pointed out that he was listed as a special guest at Nick Fuentes’ AFPAC conference. So in addition to being a sexist, Ziegler also is a racist, a bigot, and a white nationalist. Shocker.
Of course, this is not to say that Garrett Ziegler was the only neo-Nazi in the Trump White House. Only perhaps the most apparent outside of Steven Miller, who appears to hate Jews despite being one himself. (I suspect that will require a lot of therapy to unwind, and I don’t care enough to hang around for it.)
I suspect there are many other, perhaps even more evil, characters we don’t yet know about. The thing about the Trump Administration is that it always seemed to be a barrel with no bottom. But then, just when you’d hoped you might’ve reached the bottom of the slime bucket, you discovered that you weren’t even close.
Sure, it’s heartening to learn there were folks like Cassidy Hutchinson who hadn’t ceded ALL of their soul and morality to Trump. Somehow, they managed to claw their way back to reality and do the right thing. But there are even more who remain True Believers and await the Second Coming of their hero.
The scum always rises to the top.
I think you should also write for The Wonkette.
I get a lot of my inspiration from them. 😝
