This just in: Christians aren't sending their best (to Congress)
But they are sending their most arrogant, conceited, morally repugnant, and self-superior
The trouble with people like him is that they think that they can brush off people like me. Like I was nothing. They don't understand the type of world we're living in now, all those menaced souls clamouring for attention and recognition.

I’ve probably said it a thousand and one times- America is NOT a Christian nation. It IS a nation in which one is free to be a Christian if that’s the path one chooses to travel, but that doesn’t make America a Christian nation by any means. American governance is secular- by design, intent, and tradition.
That’s not to say, of course, that those in government can’t be committed Christians, Muslims, Packers fans…or whatever else may give one’s life meaning and purpose. But that’s a private and personal decision that must not impact their official role. God has no role in government, just as government has no role in the Church.
One can refer to the 1st Amendment, the Treaty of Tripoli (1791), and Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptists (1802) to confirm that American governance is not based on the Christian Church.
Of course, that’s not to say there aren’t those willing to skate past the separation of Church and State and make Christianity America’s Official Religion ©.
Rep. Mary Miller, a Republican congresswoman from Illinois, said in a recent interview that the best elected officials are people who “fear God” because they believe they’ll eventually be held accountable for their actions.
In a Christmas interview with hate-group leader Tony Perkins, Miller explained that God called her to public office, and we’d all be better off if there were more Christians like her in positions of power.
… I want to encourage people to run for office… We need people that fear God, that believe they can't hide from God, and ultimately they're going to give account to God; those are the best people to hold positions, whether it’s local or in the federal government.
There’s nothing wrong with encouraging people to run for office at any level. A lot of thoughtful people talk themselves out of doing just that. But the idea that we’re better off with godly people—and let’s be clear, she’s only referring to Christians like herself—is not just a bigoted statement to make, it’s utterly untrue.
Mary Miller is living proof that Christians aren’t sending their best.
OK, so there’s little doubt that Rep. Miller isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. She once made a speech on the steps of the US Capitol in which she quoted Adolf Hitler the day before the January 6th insurrection:
A newly elected Republican congresswoman has apologised for quoting Hitler in a speech in Washington.
In a statement, Mary Miller of Illinois said she “sincerely apologised for any offence” given when she told a crowd at the US Capitol: “Hitler was right on one thing. He said, ‘Whoever has the youth has the future.’ Our children are being propagandised.”
Miller paraphrased Hitler – who in 1935 told a rally: “He alone who owns the youth gains the future” – on Tuesday, in an address to a “Save the Republic” event hosted by Moms for America, a rightwing group which campaigns to “reclaim our culture for truth, family and freedom”.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, a new congresswoman from Georgia who has supported the QAnon conspiracy theory, and Mike Lindell, the owner of My Pillow who has become a prominent Trump backer, also spoke at the event, which was held in support of Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn his election defeat by Joe Biden.
Of course, Miller was probably just a clueless Republican from suburban Illinois who felt Hitler was just a wee bit misunderstood.
Well, except maybe for the whole “Final Solution” thing and the Holocaust and the 6,000,000 murdered Jews, correct? But what do I know? I’m just a hayseed, dumbass, Librul atheist.
What is it about the American Taliban and Adolf Hitler? It’s almost like they go together like peanut butter and jelly. No comparison, no analogy is too ridiculous, even if the person in question is directly connected to the murder of six million innocent Jews.
But even her non-apology apologia made it clear that she wasn’t stepping back from her comments.
In her apology, Miller said she was “passionately pro-Israel” and “a strong advocate and ally of the Jewish community”.
She also said her reference to “one of the most evil dictators in history” was meant to “illustrate the dangers that outside influences can have on our youth”.
Moms for America said Miller’s words were being “taken out of context and used as a weapon against her” and urged people to listen to her whole speech.
a tweet from the congresswoman’s official account said she quoted Hitler as “a denunciation of evil dictators’ efforts to re-educate young people and similar efforts by leftwing radicals in our country today”.
The tweet was sent at 5.18pm ET, three hours after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to keep their leader in power. Some Republicans claimed the riot was caused by leftwing protesters. The FBI later said it was not.
Of course, when God’s a Republican, and you’re convinced that She’s on your side, all you need to do is remind voters of this “truth,” and they’ll vote you back into office. After all, if God is for us, who can be against us?
Miller’s seat is pretty safe because she’s in one of Illinois’ few deep-red districts, so when she plays the “God card,” she knows she’ll benefit.
But what do her comments say about her views about who belongs in government?
Her comments effectively say that atheists should be shut out of public office (at least in theory, if not in law). She really doesn’t want Muslims, Jews, progressive Christians, or anyone else in power either; after all, it’s not like she believes we’re better off with President Joe Biden, a devout Catholic, in the White House. Miller has previously blamed the “far-left atheist quest for power” (wut) for creating a “a mental health crisis, a drug addiction crisis, a crime wave and a homelessness crisis.” She pretends the Department of Justice is targeting Christians. She’s also stated “The basis of all good law is the Law of God.”
Meanwhile, the current U.S. House, run by fellow GOP Christian Nationalist Mike Johnson, is facing a government shutdown in a matter of weeks and can’t even figure out whether to support our allies overseas. That’s what happens when a guy whose faith makes him more interested in his son’s online search history than running the government is placed two heartbeats away from the presidency.
The “Far-Left atheist quest for power?” I suppose that’s a convenient way for Rep. Miller to conflate atheists with Democrats and thus put them on the same level as Christians and Republicans. Except that atheists aren’t the flip side of whatever coin Rep. Miller believes Christians happen to have been cast on. We aren’t the “opposite” of Christians, nor are we their doppelgangers. Atheism is not a “religion;” we don’t worship anything or anyone…unless you count Randy Rainbow.
We don’t accept the belief in the Christian god, but we do believe in the importance of the separation of Church and State as the foundation of American democracy. It’s a pretty simple philosophy:
Your God doesn’t get to be my government. Period.
Rep. Mary Miller is little more than a White Nationalist Christofascist who believes that America is the rightful property of White Conservative Christian Cisgender Heterosexuals…in other words, people just like her. Not only that, but White Conservative Christian Cisgender Heterosexuals have the best interests and the Greater Good in mind, so they, of course, must be allowed to rule without question.
[I]n states where conservative Christian lawmakers are in the majority, how are citizens better off? Just in the past couple of weeks, GOP governors in Iowa and Nebraska have rejected federal funding for a food program that would have helped low-income families in their states. We’ve seen voters in even deeply red states support abortion rights, against the desires of their Christian leaders, because they believe women should control their own bodies instead of Jesus-loving maniacs who refuse to accept any exceptions for the procedure despite all the evidence showing how cruel that position is.
And, of course, it’s conservative Christians who have gone to bat for Donald Trump, the thrice-married racist who paid hush money to porn stars he was having affairs with when his current wife was pregnant with his fifth child. The guy currently facing 91 criminal charges. The sexual abuser. The Two Corinthians guy. The candidate caught bragging about non-consensually grabbing women because he was a celebrity. The guy who lies about everything. The guy who says he doesn’t need forgiveness. The guy who couldn’t name his favorite Bible verse. The guy who held up a Bible in front of a church after his team used tear gas to drive away peaceful protesters.
As I’ve said before, not a single white evangelical church in America would ever allow Trump to be their pastor if they wanted to be taken seriously. And yet more than half of Republican voters (a good chunk of whom would describe themselves as conservative Christians) seriously believe Trump is a person of faith.
Miller, who favorably quoted Hitler at a rally the day before January 6, 2021 and praised the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade as a “victory for white life,” has also been widely criticized for being ineffective.
Indeed, you could criticize Rep. Miller for being ineffective, but that could be said about the entire Republican-majority House of Representatives. This Congress has been spectacularly ineffective, having been more interested in performative fuckery like impeaching President Biden and hoping they find something resembling “high crimes and misdemeanors” along the way.
The sad thing about Rep. Miller is that she’ll probably be re-elected in November without breaking a sweat. Her constituents undoubtedly equate Democrats with Satan because that’s what they’ve heard on Fox News Channel. That these folks could, for any reason, consider themselves superior human beings is, frankly, laughable.
Christians have no claim to moral superiority in any sense. Even though so many like Rep. Miller DO claim to be morally superior, they also claim to be persecuted and oppressed, no doubt by godless Liberals like me.
Hahahahahahahaha….
Which one is it, y’all? You can’t have it both ways.
Sigh…if only I cared enough to expend the energy required to persecute those who call themselves “Christians” but devote no effort whatsoever to living Christ-like lives. Sadly, they’re not worth the effort I’d have to expend to quash them.
Yes, Christians are most assuredly NOT sending their best to Congress, and Mary Miller is merely one example of many who prove that contention daily.
No, sir; God’s definitely not sending Her best.
