Today's Worst Person In The World: Sen. Theodore F. McSmarmy
Sociopaths gonna sociopath, knowhutimean?
(Sen Theodore F. McSmarmy (R-TX). Head of the Senate Sociopath Caucus)
The last thing I wanted to do today was to engage in a rant about Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX). Sadly, the man’s a confirmed sociopath incapable of displaying human emotion in a public setting. It’s a failing he reveals every time there’s a mass shooting, especially when one happens in his home state of Mordor Texas. Unfortunately, with the killing of 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX, Sen. Cruz and his sociopathic bona fides were on display for the world to see.
It’s hard to know if Sen. Cruz comes by being a heartless, self-absorbed asshole naturally or if that’s just his public armor. Either way, his performance in the wake of the Uvalde massacre was entirely characteristic of someone who wants to seem sympathetic but doesn’t know how and really doesn’t give a damn, anyway.
When the rubber hits the road, Sen. McSmarmy cares about one thing: Ted Cruz. So during the Lone Star State’s big freeze, when over 700 people died, what did Texas’ junior Senator do? He jetted off to Cancun to be with his family. His constituents may have been freezing their asses off, but their Senator was warm and cozy in Mexico. Until he got busted and returned home with this tail between his legs.
I’m not about to deny Sen. McSmarmy his vacation; Lord knows we all need to get away with the family from time to time; there’s nothing wrong with that. But in a statewide emergency, it’s not unreasonable to expect our leaders to lead, amiright??
Nor am I about to claim that the Senator could have solved Texas’s antiquated electricity grid’s collapse. Still, even he has to admit that his sneaking off to the warmth of Mexico as his constituents were freezing was NOT a good look.
Then again, that’s what sociopaths do. They do what they do, and they don’t take the feelings of others into account.
In the aftermath of yesterday’s massacre in Uvalde, Sen. McSmarmy muttered inanities about the necessity of finding ways to stop this “unspeakable evil.” Left unsaid was “finding ways to stop this unspeakable evil short of doing anything about the easy availability of guns.”
Like other Congresspeople owned by the gun lobby, the Senator refuses to entertain discussing common sense gun control. So beholden are they to the NRA and the gun lobby that even thinking about gun control constitutes “Liberal gun grabbing.” Not even the slaughter of innocent school children is sufficient to move them off their monstrous refusal to consider how to save innocent lives.
“People”- in this case, Democrats- aren’t looking to “politicize” Uvalde. Nor are we looking for “immediate solutions.” We’ve been asking for solutions since at least Columbine in 1999. Republicans have been refusing even to consider ANY solutions that might show potential for saving lives.
The 2nd Amendment, don’tchaknow?
I’m not going to pretend to know what the answers are. Congress should listen to the experts, consider the options, and take action. Then, if something doesn’t work, revisit it and redo it. Lives are at stake, and if the massacre of children and their teachers in Uvalde didn’t demonstrate that clearly, I don’t know what would.
I realize Sen. McSmarmy’s position as Senator is just another rung on his ladder of ambition, and he’s just one rung below the brass ring. He’d throw his wife and kids under a runaway freight train if he were convinced it would secure the Presidency for him. It’s what sociopaths do. The man doesn’t care how his words and actions impact others. What he cares about are his ambition and his political prospects. Everything is geared toward reaching his ultimate goal- becoming President.
Thoughts and prayers are insufficient to the task of saving innocent Americans from dying in our national shooting gallery. No one knows when or where the Traveling Road Show of Mass Death will arrive, so we’re all left to wonder. Is it safe to go to the grocery store? To the movie theater? To the mall? Will this trip to get milk and bread be my last?
We deserve to be able to know that we’re safe in our day-to-day lives. We shouldn’t have to wonder if that trip to the corner store may be our last. Yet Sen. McSmarmy remains unmoved. He appears to have no problem with the idea that some Americans will die at the hands of a madman carrying a weapon of war.
Because sometimes the blood of Patriots must necessarily water the Tree of Liberty. Occasionally, innocent lives must be sacrificed to maintain the profit levels of gun manufacturers. It’s just the way of the world.
Unfortunately, Sen. McSmarmy continues to mock those asking for common sense gun reform. Even after the massacre of elementary school children in his home state by a gunman who bought two weapons of war on his 18th birthday.
Why? Because, like most Republicans on Capitol Hill, Ted Cruz doesn’t care about the lives ended by gun violence. Those lives are abstract concepts because he neither knows nor cares about them.
As much as I hate to think in these terms, I fear that what it will take to get the attention of Republicans is a mass shooting involving multiple friends and loved ones of members of Congress. Perhaps if the carnage becomes personal it will bring home the need for action. That’s a horrible scenario to ponder, and I sincerely hope it never comes to that, but I fear that’s what it will take to get the attention of Republicans in Congress.
In the meantime, innocent Texans and Americans will continue to die because Ted Cruz and other Republicans don’t care. They value the money and political cover they receive from the NRA and the gun lobby far more than they love the sanctity of human life.
How very pro-life of them, eh?
I try very hard not to hate because it’s a corrosive and non-productive emotion. It ultimately hurts the hater while leaving the hated unscathed. It’s tempting to make an exception in the case of Sen. McSmarmy, who could do so much good but has chosen instead to make his position all about himself and his ambition.
How many more will need to die, Senator, before you decide to take action? Will it require the death of someone you know and love? I certainly hope not. I want to think that buried somewhere under that dead weasel of a beard and all that baby fat is at least a soupcon of humanity.
Somewhere in there is a human being who wants to do the right thing. It’s just buried under an avalanche of self-interest, greed, and an all-consuming lust for power.
