Vote Kim Reynolds- Because Subtle Racism Is The Best Racism!

Even if she insists on running against the wrong Black woman

Aren’t you glad we live in Iowa, where we’re White, Conservative, Christian, and heterosexual??

Yes, Virginia, there are two kinds of racism. First, there’s the so-obvious-it-slaps-you-in-the-face kind of racism, like George W. Bush’s old “Willie Horton” ad. That ad sent the message that “Black man bad. Black man dangerous. Black man will KILL you dead.” It was about as subtle as a Shohei Ohtani fastball to your chin.

Then there’s Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R), who opens this ad in a deserted coffee shop watching a video of Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), who solemnly declares, “defunding the police has to happen!

There are two problems with this scenario. One, Gov. Reynolds isn’t running against Cori Bush. Two, the footage of Rep. Bush is from over a year ago. But, for Reynolds all Black women probably look the same.

Even worse for Reynolds, her opponent, Democrat Deidre DeJear, doesn’t support defunding the police. In fact,

[J]ust a couple weeks ago, DeJear praised Democratic Rep. Cindy Axne for helping pass a House bill that ensures "Iowa’s law enforcement will have the resources necessary to fulfill their sworn duty."

So, you’d think this clear and obvious racist faux pas might prompt an apology or a mild mea culpa from Gov. Reynolds, right? Nah.

Gov. Reynolds plowed right ahead as if nothing was amiss- and for her, nothing was.

Reynolds mutes the TV and asks her audience, "Watching the news, you wonder: Has the rest of the country lost its mind?" She laments the "attacks on police" over footage of a Chicago police car set on fire. This was during the summer of 2020. She conveniently ignores the prominent attack on police at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Say, didn’t Trump supporters attack police that day? Ah, but we probably shouldn’t mention that inconvenient truth, should we?

"Open borders!" she cries. "Paying people not to work."

Oh, the horrors!! The next thing you know, we’ll be finding out that Joe Biden drinks the blood of young illegal immigrant children to maintain his youthful vigor.

Or something like that.

Democrats do not have an open border policy. That's a lie. Reynolds invokes the reliable welfare queen imagery, but here's what really happened: Last year, when the pandemic was raging, the Biden administration didn't deliberately take away COVID-19 benefits so desperate workers would endanger their health so we could rev up the supply chain. Reynolds cut off Iowans from federal pandemic relief last June. Get thee back to the COVID-infected salt mines!

"Aren't you glad you live in Iowa?" Reynolds asks before leaving the seemingly abandoned coffee shop. Seriously, next time invest in some extras.

Ah, yes. Iowa, Land of the Free, Home of the White. East Idaho. Call it what you will, but it’s not exactly the most diverse state in the country…and it likes it that way.

Of course, I’m a little biased. I grew up in Minnesota, so I grew up learning Iowa jokes. (Why did the University of Minnesota put artificial turf in its football stadium? To keep Iowa’s cheerleaders from grazing. ‘Course, when I lived in Texas, we recycled those as Aggie jokes.)

REYNOLDS: Here we still have common sense. We kept businesses open and kids in school. We cut taxes and support our police.

Pandemic? What pandemic? So a bunch of people died? Hey, sometimes you have to water the Tree of Liberty (and Commerce) with the blood of (unsuspecting) patriots, knowhutimean??

Like so many other Republicans (Kristi Noem, f’rinstance?), Gov. Reynolds acted as if COVID-19 was more of a minor inconvenience than a worldwide health crisis. It’s impossible to know many people died because of her intransigence, but I’d wager it’s a substantial number.

When called on to lead, Gov. Reynolds punted.

Iowa was one of the few states to never have a COVID-19 stay-at-home order. (Even Florida had one that people mostly ignored.) Dead people are not reliable voters, so Reynolds can gloat about preserving freedom and all that crap. Reynolds opposed mask mandates and most reasonable mitigation measures that helped keep schools open.

Reynolds "supports the police" so much she reflexively sided with Donald Trump when the FBI conducted a legal search of his tacky alligator rest home. She tweeted: “The Biden Administration is taking our nation down a dangerous path, unleashing the DOJ and FBI on parents, taxpayers, gun owners, and now on President Trump himself. The federal government is more focused on punishing working Americans than solving the border crisis, record inflation, and declining national security. It’s wrong and the American people deserve better!”

The Biden administration didn't "unleash" the Department of Justice on anyone. President Joe Biden respects the DOJ's independence.

Rational Americans will remember that Orange Jesus was the one who constantly referred to the DOJ as “my Department of Justice.” He legitimately thought DOJ were his personal lawyers.

Now Reynolds is focusing on parroting GOP talking points, accusing Joe Biden of myriad “problems” for which Republicans have no solutions. That’s hardly enough to stop Republicans from demanding that the President fix those problems YESTERDAY.

Never mind that Republicans couldn’t solve them when Mango Mussolini was in power.

When Gov Reynolds says, “It’s wrong and the American people deserve better!,” she’s correct- but not about what she thinks and certainly not for the reasons she thinks.

What’s so odd about this ad is that Gov. Reynolds is almost guaranteed re-election. She could fellate a corndog while standing naked at mid-field during an Iowa State football game and still win in November. Deidre DeJear has an ice cube’s chance in Yemen of pulling off an upset because Iowa voters will vote for a Black woman about the same time I find out I’m Michael Jordan’s love child.

Perhaps I’m not giving Iowa voters enough credit, and I’d be happy to be proven wrong, but in this case, I’m confident in my assessment. Kim Reynolds will be re-elected, and Iowans will get four more years of seeing the Governor’s lips firmly attached to Donald Trump’s ample posterior.

Leadership? What leadership? That $#!@’s for losers and Liberals.
