We live in a country that, under most circumstances, entertains the pretense of valuing the competition of ideas. That interplay of ideas keeps America from sliding into the realm of fascism, though some might question if that isn’t where we already are (see DeSantis, Ron, and Floriduh).

The competition of ideas works best when those on each side of the ideological divide have at least one foot firmly planted in the real world. But, unfortunately, it seems as if each side has decamped to what MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace refers to as “Earth One” and “Earth Two.”
