You Can't Fix Stupid: "Is She Willingly Ignorant?"
It's Marjorie Trailer Greene, my dear- of course she is.
We keep on being told that religion, whatever its imperfections, at least instills morality. On every side, there is conclusive evidence that the contrary is the case and that faith causes people to be more mean, more selfish, and perhaps above all, more stupid.
Christopher Hitchens
When it became clear that Rep. Marjorie Trailer Greene (R-GA) had handily won re-election (are her constituents REALLY that stupid?) and that the GOP had won a majority in the House, I began to prepare myself for the inevitable- two more years of MTG’s single-cell thought process and her particular brand of verbal vomit.
The same brain-dead Vagina-American who graced us with bon mots such as “Jewish Space Lasers” and “Gazpacho Police” is back to add to her greatest hits. Indeed, she will be a significant pain in the ass for whoever ends up as Speaker of the House.
And that person- probably Rep. Kevin McCarty (R-CA)- will richly deserve it.
As the unofficial chair of the House’s unofficial Stupidity Caucus, MTG has an annoying habit of opening her pie hole at the worst possible moment and vomiting forth pronouncements that offer no value whatsoever. Por ejemplo, prior to the election, she spewed forth the declaration that if Republicans won the House, Ukraine would see no more aid from America.
Yeah…she doesn’t have the power to do that- but it certainly made for a great sound bite, eh?
Never mind that MTG understands as much about foreign policy as I do of her prize-winning squirrel and possum recipes. The fact that she sees nothing inappropriate about comparing protecting the Ukrainian border against invading Russians with protecting our border against “invading” dirty Brown people should tell you a lot. Crediting her with a single brain cell might be giving her too much credit.
The more stupid one is, the closer one is to reality. The more stupid one is, the clearer one is. Stupidity is brief and artless, while intelligence squirms and hides itself. Intelligence is unprincipled, but stupidity is honest and straightforward.
Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov
The dilemma is that no one knows what to do with a problem like Maria MTG. Democrats know they can’t do anything. She’s not their problem, though she is a thorn in their side. Republicans have a love/hate thing going with her. They detest her stupidity and loose-cannon nature, but she takes a lot of attention away from some of the other GOP stupidity and ineptitude.
So what’s a girl to do when she’s been stripped of her committee seats for being such a two-bit dickweed? For the past 18 months or so, she’s been the GOP’s resident gadfly, a role she relishes because she can say whatever comes into her pointy l’il head. Why think? It only interrupts the brain-to-mouth connection.
The Georgia Republican called for an audit of U.S. funding to Ukraine in its battle against Russian aggression, which she compared to the surge of migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border under President Joe Biden.
"Speaking of Marjorie Taylor Greene, we don't usually, like, you know, we don't really talk about her that much, it just is too crazy," Brzezinski said. "But this is worth looking at in terms of what portends over the next two years. House Republicans are promising tougher scrutiny of financial aid to Ukraine when the new term begins next year. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced a resolution to audit funds allocated to the war-torn country and yesterday made this comparison."
Greene claimed 5 million migrants had crossed the border illegally since Biden took office, compared to 82,000 Russian troops that invaded Ukraine, and she wondered why that foreign aid shouldn't be diverted to border security.
No one expects her to be serious because nothing she says can be taken seriously. She knows nothing of, and cares even less for, facts and evidence because who knows if she believes half the stuff she vomits from her pie hole. So is it for general propaganda impact, or is she, in her asinine way, being “serious?”
Mika Brzezinski went on to ask, “What planet is she on?” I’m not certain any of us would want the answer to that question. It’s bad enough that she’s able to (sort of) string together complete sentences, but the fact that she doesn’t bother to discern fact from fiction is unbecoming of a member of Congress.
The fact that she’s who she is is unbecoming of a member of Congress. She doesn’t understand that you don’t impeach a sitting Attorney General because you don’t like him or disapprove of the job he’s doing. You impeach him because you believe he’s broken laws or has conducted himself in a corrupt manner. You also don’t introduce articles of impeachment against a sitting President because you can.
But, as comedian Ron White once famously said, you can’t fix stupid.
People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.
Søren Kierkegaard
Then again, MTG is hardly the only bullshit merchant Republican backbencher. Will that change when the GOP assumes the majority in the House come January? That seems unlikely- except that she’ll be in the majority.
Oh, goody.
If you listen to MTG (and why would you?), you’ll hear someone so arrogant that she believes she’s an authority figure on any subject and so ignorant she doesn’t know what she doesn’t know. She doesn’t know that she’s a poster child for the Dunning-Kruger Effect, a cognitive bias in which people overestimate their intelligence and/or ability, in her case by a fair piece.
So we get two more years of Marjorie Trailer Greene- dumb as a post turtle and possessing all the self-awareness of a ‘74 Saab with bald tires and a cracked windshield. While I find it difficult to believe that her constituents were so ignorant as to return her to Congress by such a wide margin, I’m not surprised. Marcus Flowers was a far more qualified candidate, save for one tiny little problem- the color of his skin (he’s Black, don’tchaknow?).
We’re talking about north Georgia, after all, and MTG isn’t exactly known for her acceptance of diversity. Neither are her constituents.
Yep, this is a case in which the voters of her district are getting precisely the quality of leadership they deserve- because they’re as ignorant, arrogant, and bigoted as she is.
Buckle up, Sparky; the next two years ought to be fun (depending on how you define that, of course)….
